That thinking works for the newer japanese cars when it comes to plugs, brake pads, wires, I don't know why maybe because they work so closely with the manufacturer. I've seen japanese cars that they get brake noise that just keeps coming back, they put a set of akibono pads and it goes away.

btw.....TR55-IX is the iridium version of the TR55

I never had a problem with the tr55 and won't steer away from them good plugs. I normally change them about every 30k or after track events.
I'm sure they still make the TR55s. With the amount of them they sell, there's no reason to discontinue them.

TR5s are the same heat range as TR55s, the only difference is that TR55's come gapped at ~.050 and TR5's at ~.035
