Default Would a cam without LT be a compleate waist?

I know LT would be a huge benefit, but I'm still not sure if LT will be possable (emmisions test).
I wonder if adding a bigger cam is worth doing?
How much hp could I add without LT?

Thanks for helping a

well if you are worried about emissions testing, must big cam will not pass. but you can alway do long tubes w/a cat y pipe.

look into the cheatr cam, i believe itsmade to work without headers and puts down some good numbers.

A decent cam and a stall converter would help alot.Texas Speeds Web site tell you how much more RWHP the cam gives you but does'nt say if it w/headers or not.But yes a cam w/out headers will still give you more HP.

You just wont get the power you would with LTs, not sure of you emmisions but I would think a cam would cause it to fail just like LTs unless you get a small cam.

you can pass emissions with LT like the slp LTs have the high flow cats and stuff but slp is expensive and they dont have good ground clearance compared to other LT ive seen. as for the cam it would still add power but your motor needs to breath better to get max performance out of it so you would see a gain with a cam and stock headers but not as big a gain as if you had LTs.

Hmm, kind of as I though.
A cam is going to be a PITA to install for me.
I might wait and find out if I can get LT, then install a bigger cam, to make it more worth while.

I see a stall is surgested before a cam, but is it neccessary for the cam to work it's best, or will it run fine without a TC?
(I'm guessing a cam is worth more hp than a stall in the twisties? (Not really into drag racing)).

cam + stall complement each other and make either better than they would be alone. Headers help the cam reach it's potential.

Headers first then stall then cam +tune. 400 is very doable with the right parts.

at least you're starting with a car that already has resonably good flowing exhaust manifolds.

wouldn't be worth the money to upgrade to shorties.

would a supercharger be out of the question price wise? you'll get emissions legality, great power across the rpm band (good for twisties).

i'm not sure how a higher stall would affect a car in the curves

put it this way any cam other than stock will be a big improvement, LT's would get the most out of the cam, but you can use a cam like the cheatr or the old man cam, or even an LS6 cam to gain 15-20 rwhp conservatively and will be able to pass emissions.

I did NOT realise that.

Probably, they seem kind of pricey, I don't know alot about forced induction, but the prices I have seen are around$6000

By the time I've done LT, Stall, cam I'm proberly looking at $3000 what with import / shipping etc. I could probably do the install, but it would be a major PITA.

I realize swapping the cam in my car would have a good boost in hp.
Been considering going the N20 route too, but would lean toward a DP (way overkill I know, better safe than sorry!), and that puts the price way up too.

I realise this stuff is expensive, and I just want to make sure I have a realistic plan before I start
