My car has absolutely nothing trying to punch it at 80mph. Just cruising, Im fine. WTF, though I've never noticed this before. Is it the 3.23 gears and cause Im an automatic or what?

get out your chiltons manual or or hayns manual and read up on how to adust your trans control cable ... this is what tells the tranny when to kick down to a lower gear.... give it a shot could be a free fix...i think they refer to it as a tv cable. when ever i had a probablem with kick down in my 3rd gen all i had to do was adjust that. on the 3rd gens all you had to do was push the button on the outter collor of it and push the inner sleeve all then way in. then with the button pushed in and the engine turned off you turn the arm on the trottel body all the way oppen (full throtal position) then let go of the button on trans controle cable that was the correct adjustment now if i wanted the tranny to kick down at a lower rpm i would move the inner sleeve in if i wanted it to shift at a higher rpm id move it out........ like i sed though this is how it works on a 3rd gen im not too shure what the 4th gen procedure is. check it out let us know

These cars don't have that cable.....It's all computer controlled. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. You could check the flux capacitor though.

Try the automatic transmission forum... I'm sure you'll get much better response there.

Punching at 80? You do realize that the shift point for the auto into 3rd gear is ~84?

So if you were to punch it from a cruise, the tranny would only go into 3rd, not 2nd and it won't accelerate as quickly until you get up to around 3k in 3rd, then all hell breaks loose.

thats what you get for buying a car that has only four gears.
at that speed, your third gear rpms are too low
and your second gear rpms are too high to downshift to.
so get some big time stall, and that will fix it.
let someone else here explain what shift extention is..
i forgot the numbers.

alright, when im jammin', my paltry 3400 doesnt let the rpms drop below 4700 between shifts. now if i stomp it from 80 @ forth, i dont know what rpm ill be at. at the very least, 4000rpm..

so i suggest you get a 21-blade 3800 2.2,
at least!
