lifters

whats one of the best bang for the buck lifters out there. i'm mainly stock but will be getting a cam, springs, headers and tune in a few months

How many miles does the car have? If it's low miles I would leave the stockers so you dont have to lift the heads. But if your going to, the ls7 lifter is the new replacement from GM for the LS engines. They cost about $150 from some sponsors.

i have 170k on it and there ticking when its cold and i changed the oile viscosity on it also

so going aftermarket like comp cams or lunati isnt worth the money then.

^^^ texas speed, also get new plastic lifter trays. There $5 each and you need 4 of them, tsp will have them too.

what all do you have to remove when changing the lifters and trays? and about how long does it take?

You have to take the heads off so it is pretty time consuming depending on your mechanical skill. If your already pulling your heads off might as well do a head/cam package or atleast a small cam.

If you arent willing to pull the heads, I would go with some ADJUSTABLE roller rockers from Comp or Yella Terra. The adjustable ones let you center the cups in the bore which will help them last longer, and free up a couple horsepower also. They're around $500.
If you are doing any mods, get HARDENED PUSHRODS!!!!! Lot's of sponsors sell them and they're pretty inexpensive. This should be one of your first upgrades. Also, go with synthetic oil; and no thicker than 10w-30. Doesnt matter the brand, they all have the same additives.
