Default Trans Am vs C5

i was wondering how much better the C5 would be
compared to the trans am
i am getting sick of my pile of crap
but then again,
the C5 is $$$$$$
i dont like the interior falling apart
does the C5 also have a crappy *** interior?
does it take forever for the windows to go up?
does the cheap body misalign every few thousand miles?
does it rattle and squeak?

and down the line with all the bolt ons
and possibly heads and cam, (maybe n20 also)
how much difference will the weight make?
what about IRS?

believe it or not,
what started this thinking
is that i really hate having to move the seat and the mirrors back and forth.
its the only car my wife and i have.
and doesnt the corvette have two settings?

interior has lots of plasty stuff, but its mostly all changeable , i like it though and sum dont. u can buy a vette with the memory seats. theres no ratlles and squeaks on the c5. and body part aliment is awesum. much stonger frame, no cowl shake. and it weighs 300 or so pounds less than the TA . and the windows fly up.

well i went to go check them out today
led on the salesman, but hey
man
the seats are leather!
not just the "seating surface",
but the whole thing!
and the heads-up-display!
memory seats!
but i did not get to fire it up and check out the windows. or see the HUD. or DRIVE IT
oh well, next time.

im wondering if there are any cons beside the price.
like, the rear wheelwell clearance is not as much as the offroad-looking trans am, so does that mean it will not transfer weight as well for a launch? ah, who am i kidding, im getting this car.

what is a good year?
is the '99 hardtop that much lighter and stiffer? is it worth it over other years?
i may go with that or older 'cause im very poor.
i paid $11k for my '98 TA w/ 88k miles =(
any years to avoid?

I would get 2001's or above but 2000 is good too. Keep in mind that on these cars, you never know how it was driven before. Bushings go quickly on vettes so older than 2 years will need suspension refreshing. Also no EGR (01+).
Get one with Z51 suspention mod, much more important than memory seats IMO. Assuming you both can drive a stick GET A M6.

My TA has no rattels or shakes...its a 99 with 74K on it. And I wouldnt say the window motors would be any better...all Gm electric motors suck!!

C5's are still cool though.
Im faster

For me C5 is out of the question, 'cause I have a kid and there is no place for a childseat in a vette. And in a pinch I can actually skweeze (spelling?) couple of my friends back in there. May be when I get a second car... even then 2-seater would be of limited usefullness to me. And my 99 z28 hardtop with 73k miles doesn't rattle of sweak. May be you could try to refresh the suspension/chassis of your f-body. Tip: I noticed that spare tire/jack may actually make very annoying sounds when loose. They say subframe connectors make wonders. Also, at 88kmiles your shock absorbers are probably worn out.. and on and on.
Vette will obviously be nicer though, no q. about it, I don't think interior looks that much better though. You can always put aftermarket HUD in a camaro if you like it that much. Good luck with your choice.

i dont care about the EGR thing,
because i can remove it
but what is this Z51 susp package/mod?

i am going to go with M6 though
i play street only
and yeah, the auto stall launch this and that
and the M6 plays catch-up at the track,
but on the street i cant get a mad launch
so i think the M6 would be a better choice on the street. and for sure on the freeway.

My TA has no rattles and I have 62k on the Bird, Its called subframe connectors. Usually I whip vettes with the same mods and I have dynoed more then them too. thing about vettes too, you say you have a vette and the price goes up on parts. I love vettes but seems the car and the parts are more expensive, plus I have seen plenty of Z06's snap rearends with DR's at the races, i know 10bolts do the same but it will cost you less to replace a 10bolt then a IRS setup. just my 2 cents (which might not be worth much heheh)

Being in Cali. you can't remove EGR and stay legal.

The Z51 is a performance upgrade suspension package . A definite + on a vette, especialy a M6.

Actually insurance is cheaper for a vette than an f-body.

StoneOfFire - I thought about trading in my TA until I closely looked at a newer vette. My T/A has none of the problems that you listed, but I thought maybe it would be fun to "upgrade" to a C5. So I did the same thing you did and led the salesman on and took a 99 convertible for a drive. I was not impressed at all. It cant be compared to an Fbody in my opinion as the two have different body stylings. The power was the same, but the tranny felt sloppy compared to mine (auto to auto...the manuals may be different). The car was noticably smoother on the freeway, but to me the difference was: "Would I rather drive a vette? or Would I rather be seen driving a vette?" I decided no on both questions and vettes are too common in my area too. A Z06 would be a completely different story though. But if looking at the price range I'd get a used Viper.

all C5's have no EGR.......

the FRC's all come with the Z51 suspension i believe, all M6's for sure.

insurance is cheaper on a vette, for me, by $0.12 a month.
