Question from a new guy First of all hi everyone. Just started posting on the bored, been reading here for about a week. Well my question is what would all of you do if you were in my situation? My situation is that I love the ls1, and have alot of respect for what the engine can do. However Im also a Cobra fan, of which there is currently one for sale near me. The cheapest ls1 around me is nearly $5,000 more than the Cobra thats for sale. Would it be worth my time to buy the ls1 and not be able to afford modding it? or should I buy the cheaper cobra that I could have cash to mod? Re: Question from a new guy It is a 1999 Cobra, with 17k miles on it. Carfax checked it out to be pristene. It already has viper half shafts, x-pipe, loud mouth exhaust, cold air, and a short throw shifter. I got a connection at the dealer to let it go for alot cheaper than he wanted.

Of course everyone here will tell you to get a LS1 powered car. And of course if you goto the blue oval boards they will tell you our engine sucks and you should get the Cobra.
Go with your gut man. If you like the looks of the Mustang and wanna save some $ in car payments, go for the ford.
Whats your goal with your car? do you just want a fun car that has some power for scooting around town? The Cobra sounds like your choice, especially since you said you prefer the looks etc. Are you looking to get into any kind of street racing or road course or drag racing?

Especially since it's a 99. The 99 Cobras had TONS OF PROBLEMS from the factory, some were only dynoing at around 210-220 RWHP. Get the LS1, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Question from a new guy Get an LS1 but shop around. Just because you don't see one right away that's a good deal doesn't mean there won't be a great deal out there within a few weeks. 
I jumped into my purchase and I kinda wish I had bought an older model like a 98. So I would have had the cash to mod it.

Re: Question from a new guy It's common knowledge around the Ford camp (my best friend has a 98 GT) that the 96-98 Cobras were faster than the 99 & 01 Cobras. The 02 has more ***** but I'd still prefer an LS1. If it's an 03, go for it. In personal opinion I'd rather have an '02 SS than an '03 Cobra.
