Little update here

I have a 10-bolt on ebay with 36k miles on it for $350. The problem with that is the shipping will also be 280. I found a local junk yard that says they have one, I'm just waiting for a call back with the details.

Thanks again for all of the advice in here.

Keep an eye out. i picked up a rear in the area from a fellow Fbody owner that had just got a 9" and wanted to dump it. $100 bucks later i had a rear with better gears that had been rebuilt in the spring. Hold out man, you'll find something!

just got my dads rear end just exploded in his 96 silverado...after 300k miles. nothing was saved except the housing. it was the stock 10 bolt with a governor locker and 3.73's. he got it completely replaced with a perfect junkyard one and installed with labor for just under 1000. the locker itself was about 600 from gm.
you just have to look around for a good rear from a junker. the guy should know whats good and whats not.

it's an automatic, you'll be fine with a 10 bolt. Just stay off slicks

if you buy a erar off this site, make sure youre getting what you paid for and not something someone pulled from a junkyard car and told you was a firehawk rear that was in great condition with no noises at all. then it ends up being worse than the one you pulled...
