I towed my sport bike all the time w/ my car and it was easy but you are going to tow a square box which does not cut threw the wind all that easy. There is were the problem is going to be . The camaro will have no problem w/ the weight but the shape of the trailer cutting threw the air is going to be tough.I towed a little Uhaul trailer w/ my Trailer Blazer for 200 miles and the weight was not a problem but everytime a car or truck took the air off the front the trailer started swaying almost causing me to crash. That is were you will have the problem. So you need to weigh out your differences and i am sure you do not want to wreck your car.

man get the hitch and the little uhaul thing, it can handle it and when you get there you can always take it off its 4 bolts and disconnect the brake light controller. It will just solve you problems and head aches from trying to get 100 different opinions from 300 different people. Plus I KNOW it will haul the weight, I lived about 20 miles from a HUGE lake and there was a guy with a red with white racing stripe 02 Anniversary edition Camaro and he would haul his Huge inboard Sports boat with it. Ohh and the colors matched the camaro!

Towing with a camaro goes against everyone's grain including mine.
But your situation calls for it. The engine/trans can pull a trailer that size with ease. The bigger issue is the brakes. Leave lots of room in front of you to avoid a panic stop.
And get rid of that hitch as soon as you return the trailer.
Good luck.

Well I look at it like this. It will be 20 to rent the uhaul and 15 to rent the lil thing that will pull my camaro. Plus its around 500 miles. Thats 500 right there off the bat. With gas in a car that gets 15 MPG thats ATLEAST without calculating it probably 150. So the total is 650. I know I can probably manage 25mpg in my camaro. So I get a hitch for 150 and rent the lil uhaul thing for 15. Thats 165. Gas will probably take no more than 100. Thats 265. Seems a lil cheaper...No?

You want cheap? How about you sell you car for 6000 buy a truck for 2500 and haul yourself to your new place. Just get a s-10. You can get all your stuff on one load and they get about 18 MPG's with the load thats maybe 15. Ok now your gas you said would be about 165 lets make that 200. Now for a 2500 dollar s-10 thats still a good truck. So 6000-2500=3500-200 for gas= 3300. Lookie there you made money. Sorry to hear bro but this is the cost of buying a sports car. Don't get all bunched up when soeone tells you how to haul it differently.

A guy named scream n fly used to tow a bass boat with his Camaro. I can't remember if he's on this forum or z28, but either way, he's done it successfully for many years. Don't know if he's still doing it or not...but either way I know the car handled it for 2 years. One thing I will say though, if it's an auto you def need a transmission cooler.

I'm just saying that this is the cost of having a sports car. There are different limits. 2 door or 4 door sedan. Truck or car. The "cost" I was referring to was not in reference to physical money. It was talking about the cost of giving something up to have something else. It applies to most things in life.

I'll chime in here. In my younger, idoitic, redneck days I decided it would be cool to tow my little ski boat with a 93 camaro. I bought the hitch and reciever and installed it myself. The weight of the boat and trailer was somewhere around 3000 pounds with a 300 pound tongue weight which is way in excess of the tow rating of the hitch (I said I was an idiot). The car was an automatic and had a tranny cooler and transmission temp guage the previous owner installed. I also installed some of those air springs to help get rid of the sag from the weight of the tongue.
The car had no problems towing that boat and trailer up to 55 mph (I never tried to go faster). I went up and down boat ramps just fine with it. The scary part would be trying to stop. The brakes on a camaro aren't really set up to slow that much weight down, so I had to really plan my braking early and basically drive it like I had no brakes. If you've ever heard of the term "the tail wagging the dog" , that also applies here. Several times when I was braking into a right hand turn or curve, the momentum of the boat would slide out the rear of the car, scary stuff.
I'm living proof that you can do it if you take it really easy. I'd try to keep the weight of the trailer down as much as possible, 1000-1500 pounds would probably be about the max. Also, keep in mind the tongue weight, plus the weight of any crap you put in the hatch will make the car want to bottom out.
If you die during this trip, it's not my fault.

Found "Scream and Fly"
Here's his quote, and picture!
"Ah, the Camaro is the best tow machine I ever used. And trust me, nobody tows with a Camaro as much as I do. I do 2800-mile round trips, towing boats all the time. Yes, in overdrive too. 80 MPH, and I get 20 MPG too. My car now has 120,000 miles and I never had a problem. I have Draw-Tite and it fits perfectly between my Borla.
If you want detailed pics of the hitch and how it installs, let me know."
