Default Starting to mod

So I bought my first 2000 Z28 Camaro last december. Since then ive just been getting exprience driving it as it is my first manual car. It already has a QTP cut out and K & N intake.

I want to start modding and doing some bolt on mods in the summer when I go back home.

What mods should i do and in what order should i do them?
My budget is around 2000 dollars. Im going to need tires pretty soon aswell.

I just need some advice on what direction i should go with my mods.

cost wise. id do headers and tune first catback i dunno since you have the cutout. also maybe 4:11 gears that will keep you smilling for a while

Cam/supporting mods, longtubes, LS6 intake, port your throttlebody.

That may be a little out of budget if he is unable to install it all himself. Not to mention he did say he would need tires soon.

I would say go LT's, ORY, ported TB, 4.10's and a tune. That should stay within budget even if you pay for an install on the gears. But make sure the tuner gives good rates for retunes. It's normal to pay $350-500 for a first tune and $150 or so for future tunes.

If he wants $350-500 each and every tune then look for another tuner. Good luck.

Agreed. LTs, catback possibly (not sure since you already have a cutout), P+P tb, 4.10s, ls6 mani, tune. Good sticky tires as well. Maybe some suspension mods as well.

Alright, thats pretty much what I was considering.

For right now
Pacesetter LT W/ORY , LS6 intake, P P TB, Tune,

I dont think ill do the cat back just because I already have the cut out.

Later on ill start thinking of doing Cam and Heads

And one more question ever since I bought the car I noticed that the speedometer was off. It has stock wheels so I confused on why it was off. Could it be a possiblity that the previous owner changed the gear ratio? Would that throw the speedometer off, when my speedometer says 80 and i pass a speed radar it says 70.

if i were u, i would definitely do some headers and a good catback. then save the rest and either get a 12 bolt or a built tranny.

I'd do full exhaust, maybe an UD pulley, then I'd put the rest toward a rear end (If you plan on going to the track). I know it's hard to drop the cash on a rear when the car isn't all that fast yet, but trust me you'll be glad you did early in the game.

As far as your speedometer being off, as noted above it could be that
the gears have been changed. But it is also quite possible that at some
point the wheels & tires have been changed & they reprogrammed the
car for the larger wheels & tires.
I also own a 2000 M6 Z28. With my stock gears I run about 1450 rpm
at 65 mph. If your car is running higher, it probably has 3.73 or 4.10 gears.
I guess it doesn't really matter. As long as you plan on getting a tune
they can set the speedometer.

Your mod list looks good. If you plan on buying new wheels any time
soon, I would advise you to do it now. Most aftermarket wheels are
17" or 18". So if you buy new tires now that are 16" you'll have to
buy another new set when you buy wheels.

I live in california so if I were to get headers should I get a catted y pipe even though it still wouldnt be leagal. How would that effect my performance compared to a ORY.

The cats are high flow so it's not too bad. You'll probably make 3-5 rwhp less then what you would with an ORY. That's small enough that I wouldn't worry about it. And your car will smell better then us guys with an ORY.

But I heard California is real bad with inspections. Only shorty headers will pass legit and the gains from that are next to nothing. Before you invest in long tubes I would make sure you have a "friendly" place that will be lenient on the visual inspections and cat locations.

Good luck
