Default Pros and cons on a 98 LS car vs a 99-02

I hear alot of mixed reviews on the 98. I just cant seem to find a straight anwser on line. Also is a complete LS6 set with the LS6 cam, would it be good to make in the range of 375- 400 hp? I want a stock sounding and looking sleeper.

A 98 is fine, if you want to use the newer PCM for tuning (it's better, but the 98 is still tunable) then you need to re-pin the harness.

If you want to run nice aftermarket valvecovers, you'll have a hard time finding them for the perimiter bolt heads on the 98...but all ported heads are going to be centerbolt...so you could then just swap to newer valvecovers...can't bore the stock block...but when's the last time you really heard about anybody boring any stock LS1 block anyways?

With the LS6 head/cam on an LS1 engine, you'd be right at 405HP (crank), which is what a stock Z06 makes. With that package, it would sound like a stock LS1 and have stock driveability and fuel economy, but you'd have 50HP (at the crank) over stock. As was mentioned, you'll need to change the valve covers, but thats not a big deal.

I know the Z06 package has been done time and time again, but 375ish to the rear wheels is fine with me since my car has 104k. Id want to build another motor before I went out and did a bunch of major mods. What injectors did the stock Z06's come with 36lb or 40lb? I have found everything except the TB.

The stock Z06 injectors are 26lb/hr or 28lb/hr I don't exactly remember off hand..

I wonder why they went so small with a car making close to 400 hp stock.

On the stock Z06's I've logged they only hit around 85% injector duty cycle depending on what altitude you're at which is acceptable. With a few simple bolt on's they are usually maxed out though.

Yeah that seems a little seeing as 36 lbs are rated around 400. I guess its for fuel economy.

Nope, has nothing to do with fuel economy...as the size of the injector has really got no affect on fuel economy so long as the PCM can control them properly at low pulsewidth. They didn't go with larger injectors because it's not necessary, the stock LS6 is well within a safe operating range with the injectors it came with.
