Default Possible Bad Cat

I've been hearing it for a while and sort of assumed there was something loose in my exhaust system, a bolt or something. But now I'm starting to think that one of my cats is messed up. Its just like a rattling noise. Is there anyway to be sure? It isn't constant at idle, it'll buzz a few seconds, then stop, then buzz again. I'm thinking I can hear it really well at high RPM's too (at least I hope thats what it is.) How do I figure out if its a cat or not? Thanks.

I can't really remember, but I think so. I'll have to check in the morning. If it does, then its probably a cat?

I'd say you're absolutely right. Sounds like the paladium *spelling* inside your cat has broken up and its rattling around inside. Sounds terrible, doesn't it? LOL

I have had a cat go bad and never really noticed at the time, but can it start to rob power after a while if it's not addressed?

it can if the junk inside obstructs the outlet of the converter.

Unless you have emissions then you may want a set of back ups

The one I had go bad was back in the day on my '92 Camaro. It started rattling under the passenger side floor board and I knew right away what it was and replaced it, so I never noticed any power loss. Never had one go bad since. I just had a friend lossing power in her car, check engine light on which she thought was due to a bad cat. I figured when the material broke down inside it could obstruct flow, but she's gettin the code scanned and we'll go from there.

Yeah.... I am planning on just buying a set of factory ones, gutting them, and keeping my originals just because I want to have all my stock parts lol.

But then I read that doing this could make me lose power??? Is there any truth to this?
