Default New to ls1tech. Looking for ls1 performance help.

I recently purchased a 2002 z28. It has a slp air lid, flowmaster muffler, and a hypertech programmer. I want to keep it reliable but get more out of it. I have worked on the ls1 engines before but just general repair when I worked at a dealer. I know all the cheap tricks for a carb sbc but not these. Any help on the cheap easy performance mods or atleast the best on a budget stuff would be great. Thanks for the help in advance.

Start with reading all of the stickies at the top of the forum page. They list pretty much all that you need to know to start with. Then if you have further questions after that we will be glad to help. Seriously the stickies are a great help. I would start in the newbie section the go to the gen III external section. Also do a search for "free mods". That should get you started. Have fun and welcome to LS1Tech.

Everyone is going to tell you to get rid of the Flowmaster, but just get a cut-out and leave the muffler be. And yes, there is plenty of reading in the stickies.

First Mods. I own 3 F Bodies

1. 160 Degree Thermostat (My Cars Never Get Above 180 Degrees)
2. Longtubes
3. Lid, Super Sucker Ram Air Kit (ebay), Smooth Bellow
4. Camshaft
5. Gears (4 and 5 Can Inter-Change)

My First 5 Mods on Each F Body I have Owned. Check Sig. Good Luck.

I have to agree on the cut out, I run stock cat back on 2 of my three cars and just have a cut out on them at the y pipe. I have no cats on any of the cars. We have no emissons up here.

Headers, trash the chokemaster, and read the stickies.

basic stuff is the air lid & catback which it sounds like you have. after that many mods headers longtubes if legal / no emissions a good tune, A/F should be around 13:1. i think traction is important SFC, LCA, PANH, sticky tires then big stuff like cam, heads, stall / A4 or clutch upgrade plus shifter for manual. cheers!
