Default 87 ok or 89 needed ?

I've been putting 89 octane in my car since I bought it a month ago. Should I stay with that or is it alright to use 87 ? My car is pretty much stock just want to know what I should use to make everything better for the car. Or if it even matters..

Your gonna get a hundred different people in here telling you that they run 91 or 93. Either is fine. Running anything less will cause engine ping.

^duh haha^ overlooked that one. At least run 91 especially since you live in Waco where 90% of your summer is around 100 degrees.

OK thanks guys, hell I thought I was alright with 89 so I'll step it up to 91-93.

Truly, you are alright with 89, or even 87 for that matter. Our engines aren't THAT high compression that the computer can't tune for the lesser octane gas. You probably haven't noticed any drivability issues because the fuel is fine, but you have lost peak power due to timing being pulled.

That said, I have never, and will never run anything but Shell, BP, or Mobil 93 octane.

That doesn't help anyone.

And you may have had a bad experience.

BP is consistently ranked #1 followed distantly by Shell and then Mobil.

Regardless, I like Mobil and pretty much only use other gas in a pinch & always 93.
