if you were in the 48 states, a used 10 bolt is cheap, and for that price I'd buy it in a minute.

I bought my ws6 with 30K on it, put another 80K on it, and it's been rock solid.

I know, it wouldn't be as big of a concern if I lived in the lower 48. Not sure what's going to be available parts-wise up here. Even if I shelled out the coin for a 12 bolt, the shipping would eat me alive. Sucks.

80k is nothing for a ls1 car. I know of one forsale near me with 270k on stock engine and M6 trans.

Well, you can get a Moser 12-bolt or 9" rear end for around $2500 plus shipping, which will vary depending on the route you go. At any rate, the price is low, so if the seller is willing to knock off another $500-1000, I say go for it and get the superior aftermarket rear.

Sucks what did he say when you told him the rear end was going out?

He was surprised. I felt sorry for the guy, honestly...he's not a car guy at all, and he bought it after a divorce last year as sort of a "mid-life crisis" car. He said the car's been making the noise since he bought it...he asked the previous owner about it, and they told him it was normal. He doesn't really know anything about F-bodies, or cars at all for that matter, so he believed them.

He's supposed to be taking it in to the shop this week and getting an estimate. I'm hoping we can still work something out if he'll come down on the price.

If he can get it fixed its a good price, its a SOM WS6 which is a rare and very sought after car. but if he dosent fix it I would say 9k or so im not sure about prices of parts or availibility your way so maybe lower.

The other thing you guys need to understand is...I live in freaking Alaska. You don't see these cars every day here, and I mean Z28, SS, T/A, or WS6s...they just aren't common. So yes, you have to pay more in Alaska, especially for the SS or WS6. That said, I'm not going to shell out an extra 2k just because it's close. I don't want to overpay, but I'm a fair guy and I'll pay what I think it's worth.

KBB shows it worth 11.7k, for the record. Not that KBB is the be-all, end-all, but I'm just saying...

Sounds like that money the government pays you to live there is going to be put to good use

It's not really about miles it about how it was driven and taken care of. That said, if you could get a deal knowing that the rear is in bad shape it could still be a 'good' deal.

I am still working on the deal. Got a quote from a good mechanic today on doing new gears, bearings, seals, etc...basically a rebuild. I'm going to see if this guy will split the cost with me, and if so, I'll probably still buy it.

That sounds like a good idea. I can't imagine that there are too many clean T/A's up in your neck of the woods.

Cool...good luck with your purchase.

I was originally going to hold out for a low mileage car, but I'm thrilled with mine. With the amount that I'm going to drive it (I've gone through two tanks of gas in the past week), I think it would be a waste of a low mileage car.
