Default what are the problems that can come with free ram air?

i bought a lid and i'm considering doing the free ram air mod, but it seems like water would cause a lot of problems (rain, maybe heavy fog?)

should i wait and get a real ram air system or is free safe enough?
is there anything i can do to MAKE it safe enough? (grill?)

bottom line, is the free ram air worth it?

I have never had any water issues but your filter will get a hell of a lot dirtier.

Yeah I've had mine done for 10+ years and have had no ill effects what so ever. Driven in all types of weather conditions, unless you drive through a 2' puddle your not going to hydrolock your engine.
Like said above biggest issue is the filter gets dirtier sooner and needs cleaning/replacement more often. And yes there is a Performance gain at speed.

I will go against the grain here.....your filter will get dirty unbelievably quick and you will feel no gain and your engine will eat a lot more ****. I don't like to eat **** and neither does my engine........

Dirty filters collect more grit, so up to the point of being nasty it will only filter better.

Choose between flow and filtration. Unless using a conical filter, I prefer cheap disposable filters. High flow filters flow more because the air has less filtration to pass through.

We data logged my car in 108* heat here in Phoenix. Before ram air mod, IAT was 170's. We retuned (added fuel due to my initial tune in Tucson), and ripped out the air box. IAT's were in the 130's, and I was able to get 2* more out of my timing since 4* was pulled due to the heat. Noticeable difference at speed, and the lowered IAT's really helped.
