Default Newb question on air lids

Ok, this is probably really stupid for you all, but I have not seen a staright answer...

Is there any difference between a WS6 air lid and the SLP air lid everyone mentions as a quick upgrade?

I have a 2000 WS6 and am beginning to consider modifications. People mention getting the SLP air lid, but on first thought I imagine it is only relative to those with standard Trans Am's and not WS6 variants.

Is that correct, or is there some gain from an SLP air lid over the WS6 air lid?

Yes. The WS6 lid is no different than other stock lids, but the base that the lid sits on is higher, as part of the Ram Air system.

Agreed, going to the SLP lid will eliminate the baffles and the oval opening to the TB, It does gain. IF you have the raised base, do not get the Flow Pac as it was designed for NON ram air cars, you would be wasting money. IF the car was NON ram air, it would be worth it as it draws air from the bottom.

I have a 2000 WS6, I assume it is all stock. So there are SLP complete kits available that raise the base?

I've seen the SLP lid for sale, but not a complete kit. That's why I was confused, I wasn't sure where the baffles are that people mention are eliminated.

Take your stock lid off, you see ridges in the lid itself and the opening is oval and there is seperate empty spaces on each side that reduces noise, but hinder power due to turbulence.

A "Lid" makes the oval hole ROUND, there are no ridges in the lid, and baffles are now gone which gives a good jump in power. I like SLP the best due to fitment, looks, and price and all lids make similar power. I think SLP just edges out the competitions.

Since you have the higher rise base, just get the "Lid" alone, its a direct swap.

Thank you very much, now it makes a lot of sense. And those pictures really help to show the differences in them. The SLP definately looks more "air flow friendly" based on its shape.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me... Off to order an SLP lid.

Btw, I am curious as to what those boxes due to lower noise? What type of noise? Some air sucking sound without them? Just curious for knowledge's sake... I just ordered my SLP lid so that will be my first mod (hopefully I won't become addicted to this stuff, haha)

Yea, its for noise. SOME Lids whistle and GM has to follow harsher restrictions. I never really understood until I lived at a house that was 10 feet away from the road and the road was higher then the home so drive by noise can be a big issue. When it comes to state guidelines.

Too late, once you get into this game its hard not to. Especialy when you start with your exhaust. I just got my headers on not too long ago and just need my y-pipe so I can drive it again, it sounds amazing with open headers. I just need to get a lid then I can go with a cam and some heads later on.

I did the SLP LM1 Exhaust first, then I did the SLP lid and bellows.
