Z28's having a hood scoop in 2nd gens doesn't apply. That's
like C5's calling us perps cause they had an LS1 in 1997.
I never said don't change the hood, just not the logos cause
for what-be proud of the Z28.
(which what I have been trying to say all along)
mines debadge and has hood and i plan on getting the spoiler some time down the road too. but i have and never will try and pass my car off to anyone saying its an SS though.

Children .....please be quiet.
The only way any SS is different from a Z is from comments of stupid owners who think they are.
Unless anyone keeps their ride bone stock (And how many of us do?), they are the same model with different options.
And if SS is more valuable than a Z, you are poking yourself in the eye. I got $17.000 extra modded options on mine, so I should call it a ....Hmmm....Welll.... a....CAMARO I guess.

Second yes a SS has a higher resale cause it has
a higher retail. Common sense, go to KBB, NADA,
whatever. You don't just lose the money, but mods
you can't expect to get much back cause who wants
to buy someone else's project when they could build
there own with the parts THEY want not that you wanted
and are now selling. A highly moded car usually signals a
car that has not been treated lightly(track, street, whereever)
and people tend to say away from those.
Now the Y2Y options aren't holding much money but the
base WU8 packaging is getting most of want it cost.
Another fact to clear an assumption.
That's like saying a Vert isn't worth more.

How about you go to your bank and ask them how much more a 96-02 SS is over a Z... they'll be like "I don't see SS anywhere." I got it every single place I went to. I just said screw it and paid ten grand for an 01 Z.
The ONLY reason I wanted a SS was because I think they look better. They have a hood and wheels which is something I wouldn't have to replace. Now I have a Z which i'll get new wheels and a hood for. Oh well.
Why can't I say they are over rated? Just because I said I like the way they look over the Z28? They ARE over rated because people think they give some sort of magical performance over a Z28. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. Everyone see's it on here all the time. People asking which f-body is fast like SS vs. WS6 vs. Firehawk... just do a search.
So how am I being hypocritical by saying they are overrated? Only because I think they look nicer? Should I say, overrated performance? How's that?
The 96-02 SS has an overrated performance stigma. Will that suffice?
When you run your VIN number anywhere, it will not say Camaro SS. It will say Camaro Z28... hell, some places like carfax and autocheck even say Z28/IROC in the VIN searches.

Overrated performance than so is yours cause they're
the same. I'm not going to argue word imperpertation.
If some outside people ASSUME its faster than oh well.
THE PEOPLE WHO CARE KNOW IT ISN'T. Are you upset
that some ricer may think I'm faster, while not even knowing
the mods may have. If you wanted overrated say the LS6 intake
which gets you 7HP that the newer ones have(god please don't derail
this post again because of that, calling flameproof here) that could
be one either car.
I paid 12 for my SS. 2 more than you. Is the hood
spoiler wheels tires worth 2 grand, was that overrated.
Is a higher resale/value overrated. HOw about for
in your own words better looks. I got a good deal on
my overrated overhyped SS as you did yours.
I already said numerous times its an option package and
they are titled the same. You continue to not read,
make assumptions, and while you clearly can have you
own opinion its when you make a ridiculus statement like
"there is no Denying" that your wrong. Don't state your
half cocked biased opinion like its a F'n fact OK How's that.
Don't tell me about my "duh" statements which are true, how's that.
So don't buy an SS or WS6 because people who
don't know(and don't care for that matter) thinks its faster
while it isn't. Absolute speed is everything, looks are meaningless.
Everyone go buy a formula or Z28 with roll up windows, tape deck,
and cloth seats. Forget those overrated expensive Ttops and Chrome,
they don't improve ET's. Don't put your money where you want to and
before you buy those snobbish SLP parts email DMNSPD for the best
way to do things because there is "no denying" that his opinion is law.
What's color is there "no denying" looks best?
Sorry for the rant, this dude's trying my patience, I started out
just trying to say be proud all the Camaros, they all kick *** regardless
of the having two letters or two numbers.

It's pretty screwed up how back in the day the Z was the corner carver and the SS was for straight line supremacy, and now it is the total opposite!

I think we both, locosteelersfan and I, kinda went a little far into what you and I are both posting. I got kinda lost in some of the mess, and I think some of the stuff I posted, you took the wrong way. So *I* think it went wrong by myself assuming all you were doing is saying there is such a big difference. You went on assuming I think it's a huge waste of money.
12 for your car... not bad, but it's also 2 years older. Would I have bought a 99 SS for 12? Yes, but I didn't find one since they were all like $20K+. 2 grand for hood and wheels and maybe if you were lucky to get some Y2Y stuff? I personally think it's worth it.
Why? Simply because I wanted a SS for the looks. I couldn't find one for the money I wanted to spend, so I spent 10 for a car that booked 16. You and I have gone about the fact that the average LS1tech member knows there isn't anything special about it. That argument wasn't about you.
The "overrated performance" was for people like chrismcdaniel, who seems to have a superiority complex.
I respect a V6 as much as someone who is driving around a SS. Why? Because as you stated before, they all have a Camaro. RS, SS, Z28, Berlinetta, V6, IROC-Z, 1LE, GMMG, green and red polka dots, whatever... It's a Camaro (or Firebird - so not to let everyone out), so that's all that matters.
I have worthless options like leather, all power stuff, monsoon, t-tops, ect... so I guess mines not the most ample performer either. The only thing it's lacking is WU8.
What is a fact about "duh", is you can get take-offs. What is a fact, is WU8 means nothing to your insurance company and bank. What is a fact is this is the newbie forum and this is where the newbie should learn his/her SS isn't any better than a T/A, Formula, Z28, or Firehawk.
Sorry to get you *that* fired up. What is a fact is this is just the internet.

Wow, that was a classy move, thank you.
Understand that I came here from the SLP forum
that was closed. They discussed the subtlies all the time.
The take offs your talking about are the things that GM
put on and were changed through Y2Y options.
SLP offered tire options so the ones that GM put on
were sold as take offs. I can't remember if they were
275's that GM put on but I think they were.
The GM standard issure camaro
hood is not available as a take off, it was never there
to take off. If so it would be painted. Ever see SLP sell
standard hoods in a choice of color?
Suspension parts if you got the bilstein or
1LE package, were sold as take offs cause they were
there and removed. The base exhaust was put on by
GM the dual single base SS exhaust with the round polished
tips. This is an example to me saying they didn't just send a
Z28 there-GM made some of the changes themselves.
That exhaust is not a Y2Y option it is part of the package.
A package GM started and SLP finished. All SS's went to
SLP weather they got Y2Y or not.
I think I find really stupid is why pay SLP 1000 for BFG tires
and never get the originals. Just buy the set yourself for the
same 1000 bucks and have 8 tires not 4. Same goes for
wheels. They made you pay full retail for items and didn't
give any credit as to the parts that you already paid for
and never received, then turned around and sold them for
100% profit as take offs. Every time I posted this they deleted
it. I'm not a fan of SLP myself.
The reason the banks and such don't distinguish is cause
they can't. The VIN doesn't list option packages. Its in
the RPO's and they can't know that. My title/issurance card
etc...does not say SS, I know what your saying. The 1st gens
could be combination models Z28/RS/SS. I don't know how
they got titled. State farm does charge me $1 more a month
because it is an SS, they asked. They said it has a higher premium
because it has a higher value and thus would cost them more should
something happen.
I never expected to get an SS, I was looking for spend 10 and
didn't even expect to get an LS1. This was 2 years ago.
I paid 12.5+trade and the book was 21+ and that was only cause
they gave me 6000 for a car I would have sold outright for 3.
I was lucky, they called me and I made a ridiclus off that they took.

I have been schooled on the SLP take off stuff. BUT... how did the RS package get the Z28 exhaust if it wasn't a take off? I think the only Y2Y option that is really of any importance is probably the 1LE suspension. Most people will change everything else.
I guess some insurance companies will take into consideration the SS. Nationwide didn't. As far as financial institutions are concerned... they DO distinguish the WS6 on the Firebird as a "handling package", "performance package", or "dress up package". The banks I went to used NADA to figure their values. They could't find a Camaro SS on there, but if you'd go to nadaguides.com, it's there. Kind of strange...

If he tells people that's it's an SS, what an azzhole, but to each is own.
Technically if you change every part to GM OEM SS parts, then yes it is an SS but he still won't have that code on the door, "WU8"

Here's an interesting thing that I was told by a reliable source that I think is a bunch of crap.
In SCCA autocross the SS/WS6/Firehawk in stock form are not in F-stock like the Z28/TA/Formulas, they're in Super Stock with corvettes and others. Which we all know is pretty redicoulous. And then, the 2002 Cobras are in F-stock as well as the regular mustangs. Where the Cobras get IRS and a different engine over the GTs.
[I do not know about the '03 cobras, but would assume they got bumped to SS]
Again, this came from a buddy who is really into autocross; so if this info is wrong, it's his fault not mine
