A camaro SS is just a Z28 with the SS options so it is sometimes called a Z28 SS

Not sure but I think it is a factory Z with a SS hood, this is always what I thought of it to be. Good Luck

if you look on an SS rpo code it should say "z28" and "wu8". SS start out as z28's anyway.

.....................AND? shrug. i have an SS hood and plan on an SS spoiler, i wont run badges though.

its not like the SS is totally different breed of car. looks are pretty much the only thing worth it in the SS package.

yep......when you go to kellybluebook.com or something you only get options for Camaro and Z28 then the SS package is on the extras list....

personally i wish it was the way it used to be back when the Camaro RS, Z28 and SS all came with different options and different engines. You could mix and match them all too....

I'm still looking for a 69 RS/Z28 car

to me the current SS package isnt worth it seeing how 90% of the people who have it swapped out the SS specific parts for aftermarket ones so what was the point of spending the 3k+ extra in the first place.

Just to say you have a SS

I think they originally called the 96's Z28 SS's. I have a Camaro book that has a red SS that also has Z28 badges on it. I've also seen pictures of 96's that say Z28 SS on the ram air intake that seals under the hood.

Sup, Josh! Long time no post! Ha ha!
Anyone seen those Ultra Z's? I think it's an SLP option.
The Ultra z28 comes with a quad exhaust centered in the lower portion of the ground effects package and like a sticker badge. Similar to a newer vette exhaust. Sounds sweet, too.
Only seen one running around the EPT. Just wondering.

96's were referred to as Z28 SS. The floormats were even stitched that way. The airbox filter cover also said "Z28SS" on it. At the early part of 97 car production, some of the leftover "Z28SS" airbox covers were used on early production 1997 SS's. After that, the car's name was adjusted to "Camaro SS" and the Z28 was dropped from the tag. Hope that helps some. Equipment and appearance were relatively the same.

Ultra Z? All that is, is just a hood and wing. It wasn't a dealer option or anything. You just go to their website and buy the stuff.

SS was an option for Z28's until it became it's own model.

It makes sense that the SS should be a Z28 with the SS package. Chevy should have continued to badge them that way. The SS is not a Camaro coupe with the SS package. It starts as a Z28 and then is upgraded to an SS. Isn't that basically what SLP did early on when Chevy wasn't interested in building an SS? You may not think it is worth the extra cost, but it is an upscale Z28- I wish I had checked that WU8 option.

The last time it was its own model was in 1972. 96-02 is just a Z28 with WU8 and some Y2Y RPO's. SS is just another option like leather seats or power windows.
