Default 99 Pontiac formula?????????

I just bought my second f body, its a 99 pontiac formula i think. According to the RPO its a WS9, LS1, with the six speed. My problem comes with the badges on the car all saying trans am. Is this normal? Any help would be great thanks in advance.

WS9 is the formula package. Transams will have that code also. WS4 is for a Transam. Look for the WS4 code to tell if it is a Transam. If it isn't there it is a Formula

You could be right.^ I just looked thru the 1999 GM rpo list. Long list by the way. To the OP I have a Transam and I have WS9 and WS4 rpo codes.

WS9 is the formula/v8 conversion code for sure. I'm pretty sure W66 is the trans am code. obviously ws6 is the ws6 option, and there's also 1LE if it is a formula with the autocross package.

W66 : MERCHANDISED PKG, FORMULA
WS4 : MODEL CONVERSION, TRANS AM
WS6 : PERFORMANCE PACKAGE, SPECIAL
WS9 : MODEL CONVERSION, FORMULA
I went ahead and looked it up.

So in regards to the RPO codes, what does the conversion and merchandised mean? I am currently trying to get a picture of it up here.

This has been covered before
WS9 is the Formula conversion Pkg
W66 is the Formula Merchandise Pkg
Y82 is the Trans Am Merchandise Pkg
All the V8 cars carry the WS9 Code, To be a Formula or Trans Am it must have the coresponding code aswell.
WS9 + W66 = Formula
WS9 + Y82 = Trans Am
WS9 + W66 + WS6 = Formula WS6
WS9 + Y82 + WS6 = Trans Am WS6
Also for the T/A Convertible owners your RPO is Y84

The car in that pic has a Trans Am front bumper, side skirts, and spoiler... unless someone took the time to convert it to a Trans Am thats probably what it is...

To firemech; That appears to be a Trans Am, so the side emblems are correct.
FYI, 99% of the titles for the Trans Am optioned cars actaully state 'Formula' on the the title. Which is where most of the confusion comes from.

To hoodtsa: That car appears to have had some panels changed, most likely had the whole rear hatch swapped out to the standard Firebird/Formula hatch for soem reason. Maybe before the person traded it in, they swapped the hatch to someone who wanted the up-level spoiler, ya never know, ...

what is special about the formula? is it that it has a firebird body with trans am motor or what??

Hell no. If that is a private owner selling that car tell them to go suck on a lemon....if it's a dealer it probably is a lemon.
