When I bought my 01 Camaro a few months back, I got the extended warranty for about $1100 + taxes. The salesman said it usually costs about 2-3k if you get it after you drive the car away.
I checked with my banker, the going rate for extended warranty is approx 1k-1.5k, doesn't matter if you get it when you buy the car or like you want to get it now. Just a sales tactic.
