Buying advice
I am having a LOT of trouble finding any cars worthwhile around my area. Besides the FS section here and craigslist, where do you guys look for cars? I do have some specific criteria and wont settle for less. 98-02 LS1, ttops, M6, no valvetrain mods, no nitrous, no drag slicks used, and under 150K miles. I also need to trade my DD 2004 civic for the Z28 or TA I would be purchasing.
Where should I look? Plenty of LT1s around Maine, Mass, NH, Vermont.

Definitely try autotrader. Sounds like you'll need to find a dealer with the car you want, since very few private sellers would consider trading an LS1 car for a civic. If you're holding out for a private party trade, you might never find what you're looking for.

Hey Timmy,
I just went through what you're going through, and I'm telling ya, it was tough finding M6's. I'm in N.VA and picked up my 98 TA M6 with 54k miles last night from just north of philly, PA. I continually checked autotrader, but never really found anything there. My primary search was focused on Craigslist. I would hit every state and every city doing a search for "Firebird" "Trans Am" and "WS6". About once a week I did a custom google search that would would search craigslist sites nation wide, and litteraly went through 100 pages of results, clicking on those that matched what I was looking for, and reading the descriptions to see if it met all my criteria. You wouldn't believe how many A4's are out there for cheap. I was extremely lucky and picked mine up for $8,500...however, again, I was extremely lucky. The google search is just your query, and the website you want to respond. For example, I want to query all of craigslist for a WS6. So in google type...ws6 site:craigslist.org . If you want to site specify further, you'd do something like ws6 site:washingtondc.craigslist.org. Obviously the website needs to be a real website. So I would first start taking the hour or two and going city by city all around on craigslist.
Now I'm not sure about the swap as I'm still a newbie to the f-body, but you could pick up a A4 TA cheap, and swap in a T56. Another new member is doing that, so you may inquire her with what her bf is doing. I spoke with her in the introductions and greetings sections...I'll find the link.

I'm surprised you guys have a hard time findind M6s. Every time I've been in the market for one of these cars, all I can find are M6s....which does me no good because all I want are A4s. Guess that's just how it goes....nobody can ever find what they want, only what other people want.

Black people want straight hair, white people want curly hair, red heads wish they were attractive...its as old as time itself...you can't always get what you want, but you'll always get what you need. M6's are hard to come by here in north texas...you find a few here and there but the ones you do the owners are a little bit too proud of them...

Too proud is right! They jack the price like 3 grand for an M6.
Thanks for the response about google! Will just keep looking I guess, they don't pay me to work at work, they pay me to drool at LS1s.

98 TA EMLC.. you gat a GOOD deal if the car is really clean.
I looked for 3 months here in NC for a decent deal on a low mile M6 bird. Finally saw this car and liked the color so much I got it even though it was an A4 car.

Know exactly what you mean man. I was already making plans to drive to DFW to pick up a 02 Z28 M6 but the day before i was going to leave i just happen to see (my now) 02 WS6 M6. Which was awesome because i wanted a WS6 but couldn't one that was in decent shape or a M6 and thought i was just going to have to settle for the Z. So I really lucked out. Good Luck on your QUEST thou lol.
