Default Help me build my car

To start out with a have a 99 ta, w/ 2.73 a4, mti lid free mods and borla adjt cat back. I would a mid to high 11 sec car, NA only.

What I'm asking for is help on what to do to obtain this. If money isn't an option and have the work done over time (a few years) what would you guys recommed and in which order. I am looking for the type of product and which style (ie cam and heads).

I know this has been covered in pieces through different topics but because I can't afford everything at once, what should I do first, second and so on to keep building it up.

Thanks!

1) Torque Converter (3500 or so stall, maybe 4000) WITH TRANS COOLER
--TCI is a bit less money, Vigilante or Yank for slightly better quality
2) Drag Radials or preferably ET Streets (SAME TIME AS CONVERTER!!!)
--I prefer Nittos because they last longer than BFG drag radials.
3) Longtube Headers
--Coated pacesetters are inexpensive and flow very well, Go Kooks for TOP quality
4) Off Road Y-Pipe
-- Probably recommend custom on this.
5) 3.42 or 3.73 gears
-- GM or Motive are thought to be best (EXPENSIVE). Strange are excellent and more affordable.
6) ASP Crank Pulley
7) Skinnies up front (obviously just for the track)

*These 7 mods should be enough for high 11s. If not or for deeper 11s, add:

8) LS6 Intake
-- Go with a standard GM composite. Avoid the Holley/Weiand metal intakes
9) Ported Throttle Body
-- There are a bunch of good choices (Bauer, Jantzer, etc.) in addition to porting the stock one.
10) Minor weight reduction
11) dyno tune with LS1 Edit

*These 11 mods should ALMOST DEFINITELY put your TA in the 11s. Heads and cam shouldnt be necessary at all. If you still want heads and cam:

12) Cam
--Thunder Racing makes a good cam.
13) Heads
-- Most head/cam people i know recommend Absolute Speed.

Good luck and happy modding!

im doing:
tci ssf 3500 , transgo shift kit, trans cooler
GM NEW 3.42's with slp take off zexel (3.73's dont add that much other than weakness)

ls6 intake, cms 224/226 cam kit with 112lsa (571 lift), the /226 should be good should i need to use the hose on the car.

asp pulley (why not)

tsp lid, holley powershot, !FRA

Hooker catback, nitto 555R extreme DR (you want to run these daily!)

pacesetter long tubes, !EGR, !AIR, !CAT

160F thermostat to help on the hot lapping maybe? I dunno it was cheap you can make your own if you want.

and most of all important : A good tuner with ls1edit that knows his shiz.

I am hoping to break 11's but honestly, i dont even own a helmet so i dont want to get banned from the track for no cage/loop. The track usually doesn't look for the loop, but if you run 11's they will ask you to get a cage or get out.

Thats my plan, i also got Panhard bar (Bmr), and LCA's to help traction and i should probably add subframe connectors since i have a TTOP car.

I'm running 16's that should help the nitto's bite more. Maybe throw an extra tire in the back for more traction lol).

I took alot of the parts from folks here, and the mom's grocery getter car that was on one of the sponsors (TSP? thunder?) site.

If nothing else theres always the hose, a 50 shot dry would be safe and get that hole shot but then you might put a hurt on that tranny. Again i dont want to have to put a cage in. I like my daily/grocery getter with all its stock parts and dont plan to lose weight.

Hope it runs 12.0 or i'll be pissed. Then again track condition and DA can really affect alot. Everyone seems to run faster in texas lol.

SamZ28--I agree with you on the daily drag radials thing!

also 16s are not necessarily better.....I've gone 1.66 on a 17 inch nitto with a tranny that was on its way out....all a matter of preference.

so you saying the 16 nitto's are same/better/worse for traction? I just like the 16" size cause they are cheaper and we know how nitto's work in the rain after 5-6K miles.

a matter of $$.

I'd like to find some good chrome cheap 16's in chrome. Any suggestions? I wish i could afford 17 tires but im poor now.

What are the best looking 16's that are cheap that i can find around these woods for an 00 z28?

rather spend the dough on GO than show honestly.

they are about the same....everyone complains that the 275/40/17s dont have enough sidewall...yes the 245/50/16s have more sidewall but the 275s are 30 mm wider!!! all in all i think its a matter of preference, but given the fact that i only have 337 RWHP im getting through the 60 foot pretty quick on the 17 inch nittos.

If you wanna go cheap you could always buy a nitrous kit, but I wouldnt go this way.

1)PT4400 from Yank
2)Et streets
3)Some good LT's
4)Pulleys
5)Gears
6)Some weight reduction !spare tire and jack! !rear seats!

This setup will probally get you into the 11s with good track prep, you should also practice your launches. They are very key in getting a good ET. Good Luck

My list goes like this:

#1a - Converter
#1b - REAR END. 12 bolt or 9 inch w/ 3.73 gears (for A4).
#2 - Tires.
#3 - Intake / Exhaust mods. (For you that means an LS6 intake).
#4 - Cam, then heads (or both at same time).

You'll thanks me for getting your drivetrain beefed up first. I whish I woulda gone that route - I would be able to flog my car around and enjoy it much more than I currently do.

With a strong drivetrain you can launch very aggressively and get good 60' times. Good 60's get you good ET's.

tires first man. With a total stock A4 2.73 i could lay 40 feet of drag with nice yokohama a509's (not bad tires). With 555R DR's i could maybe chirp 'em with the mods i have on right now (not the ones in the garage lol) if theres some gravel.

Yeah that much difference. Best $315 installed i spent. (16") Laying drag ticket could cost you that much easily.
