In your case running C16 is a great waste of money that will result in a loss of power along with destroyed O2 sensors.

Sure, if you like pouring money down the drain. No need to run 117 octane on a stock engine that runs fine on 91, and the lead will not mix well with your converters.

I'm not sure your need for a higher octane fuel but if you really need it for something, you need to look for an unleaded race gas. I believe VP has a 109 octane unleaded fuel you can use if needed. Running a leaded fuel like C16 will kill your oxygen sensors.

I would like to know where it is that people have developed the idea that octane levels beyond premium would be benificial for a stock LS1. This just baffles my mind every time I see someone post about it.

I think I should find an "understanding octane" tutorial link and sticky it in this section.

I find myself explaining octane all the time on lesser car forums. It seems like the vast majority of the US population has bought into the oil companies' marketing BS hook, line, and sinker. They really think that they will get better fuel economy from 93 vs 87 in a car designed to run on 87. Even if you did pick up .3mpg there is NO way you would come close to making up for the 25 cent a gallon price increase. I could rant for days... In the end: Stupid people are stupid.

but the higher octane creates a bigger explosion which pushes the pistons down harder and makes the motor get better power...and thats a scientific fact.

sad thing is, there is a guy on here with a heads, cam, turbo camaro, that still doesn't understand that...and he built his car by himself. How he could be smart enough to pull off that build on his car and not understand how octane works is beyond me...
