Well here's the deal I have a 6 speed trans am with just a k&n fipk intake PP throttle body short shifter off road Y pipe with an SLP exhaust. I'm looking to mod it some more but here are my ideas and wanted some opinions. I can either go and do full bolt ons pulley LTs etc and probably a tune or I can go and get a medium cam with a tune
. What would get me the most power more bang for my buck? I know bolt on's would extract every bit of power from the cam and I would probably do them later on down the road but for now what would you guys recommend. It is a daily driven car with a rebuilt motor has about 40k on it. I was told it has the stock 853 heads ported and polished but have not verified myself. My car hardly ever sees the track but I do take it every so often. What would go best with my setup?

I was looking at a cam that would give me a decent idle and I was just gonna get bigger intake and exhaust on the cam. I know bolt ons would help me benfit from the cam best but at this point in time what would give me the most power/ difference that I can feel.

Sounds like you have your heart set on a cam. Let me put it to you this way putting a cam in before the proper bolt on's is like putting the roof on a house before you have built a frame. The LT's/Y pipe alone would make the car feel a lot more responsive and help out the top end. You can never go wrong with headers on an LS1.

This really shouldn't even be a question. Without the supporting mods (bolt ons), you shouldn't even be thinking about getting a cam.
No, you don't have to have every single bolt on out there first, but, at minimum, I would have long tubes, free flowing cat back or true duals, and a lid. I have a friend that bought a car with just those 3 supporting mods and a 228 cam, and it trapped the same at the track as my car did back when it only had most bolt ons.
He brought it to me summer of 08 and I ported his throttle body, installed an LS6 intake, and under drive pulley and the car was a whole new animal!
Just throwing mods at a car will result in poor and disappointing results. Build a good foundation to build from and you will be much happier.

From what i have seen stock clutches don't last long on cammed ls1 cars. Like these guys have said, do a few bolt ons then save up for a cam install with clutch, valvesprings, injectors ect

Then how about some cheap headers and a cam. Many people have had success with the stainless ebay headers and you can get them for about $200. Then get the other bolt-ons when you have the money.
