Question Is switching brand of oil bad??

I was just wondering if switching over from Royal Purple to Mobil 1 would be a bad idea? I was always told changing around brands of oil wasn't good for the motor. Is this true or not??
Thanks guys!

Sorry if this was a stupid question, but I've just always been told that different brands have different properties that react differently in the motor, and by changing around oil, can reduce compression and engine life over time. Maybe thats , I just wanted some opinions.
why stay away from 5w30???

the 5w30 tends to thin out a little too much with use. per patman's advice(resident oil guru) i cut 4 qts of 10w30 with 2 qts of 15w50. i'm going to try castrol 30w next.

I wouldn't be mixing with 15W if you live in a colder area.
10w-30 also lesses piston slap compared to 5w and so
I've read doesn't get consumed as much.

I think your talking about switching to synthetic from
fossil. Some say its bad on seals, Mobil claims theres isn't.
Bought my car with 46K, don't know what was in before but
now I use Mobil 10w-30

Switching oils isn't going to hurt anything, but if you're going to do extended intervals beyond about 6000 miles, you're better off sticking with the same brand.

thanks for the responses guys! I change my oil betwen 4 & 5000mi., and now that it was mentioned, I think maybe they were talking about switching between regular and synthetic, but I just wanted to make sure. It never hurts to double check! This all came about after reading a post last week about Royal Purple, and although I thought it was fine, it didnt seem to fare well with others, so I figured if Mobil 1 was just as good if not better, then I would use that and start saving the money.
Thanks again
