Default Trunk/rear Hatch

This might sound stupid but I bought my 99 TA ws6 used and to close the rear hatch I've been slamming it down. I took it to get some parking lot damage fixed and the body guy said that it's supposed to be self closing. What's the truth?

Yea, self closing as in you close it yourself by pushing it closed. Your body guy is out to lunch on this one.

you do have to 'slam' it rather hard. Check your rubber bumpers to see that they are not extended too far, that the OEM spec lifts are used, and that there is no panel misalignment or latch interferance.

BTW, they stopped the automatic closing mechanism in like 1996 - a cost saving measure - also in 99 they had to add a double latch for Fed Regs.

I hope this body shop gave you a warranty, they sound rather stupid to me!
