Question Do the 98-99-00 models have different heads than 01-02

Do the 98-99-00 models have different heads than 01-02 in the fourth generation camaros?

This is what my friend told me and I didn't believe him. Is it true?

They are all the same casting head (241s). What changes in those years is the intake, 98-00 are LS1 intakes, 01-02s are LS6 intakes. Maybe your friend was confused with the two.

This is definitely NOT correct.

To the OP, your friend had it right.

'98s received 806 casting heads with perimeter bolt valve covers.

'99 and '00* received 853 castings with center bolt valve covers.

'01 and '02 received 241 castings with center bolt valve covers.

(*some late build '00 models also received the 241 heads)

Okay thanks. He also said that the 01-02 had around 20 more horsepower because of the heads. Is that right also? I know the ls6 intake manifold added like 10, but I didn't think the different heads would add any.

He is not correct on that one. The 241 heads used a slightly better casting proceedure, and are probably worth about ~5hp more. Same for the LS6 intake, maybe another ~5hp on a stock car. The exhaust manifolds were also improved in '00, which might be another ~5hp. But cam lift was reduced in '01, so overall the difference in stock power between the early LS1 cars and the late LS1 cars is about ~10hp on average.

It almost seems like there are minor differences in every year of LS1
