This is often the result of K&N-type filter use. People over-oil them, and this is what happens over time. I'd rather just stick with paper for any applications that use an MAF. And if you absolutely insist on getting that 0.5 hp gain from the K&N, then make sure to check/clean the MAF on a somewhat regular basis (at least with every plug change).
I would stay from K&N "filters." Not worth the minuscule RWHP gain in my opinion. The first mod I did to my Formula was !K&N. I had to clean my MAF because of all the oil that was caked on the sensor wires. Really improved things!

if you cant find 93, when you fill up, throw a gallon or 2 of E85 in. it is NOT corrosive like Methanol and its like ~105 octane so its a good booster. also cleans most of what it touches.

and just wondering, why do you capitalize every word?

Good move.

Most of that MAF build-up was likely the result of the K&N that you removed.

Why?

Raising octane without a need for it will only cause a decrease in performance and MPG. If you aren't getting detonation (and don't see KR on a scanner), and aren't boosted/spraying, then stay away from anything more than premium.

I run a 45% E-85 blend in my Non-flex silverado, but its cause i'm a cheap *** and I know that I can. I'm not doing it for octane though and I'm due for a fuel filter change soon because it's so "clean" it washes everything down the line.

edit- mileage is not as good, 2-3 mpg less

update...
went to etown tonight and ran a best of 13.8 at 104. so just cleaning that sensor netted me 1.3 sec and 8 mph. The banging was really bad launching cause the drag strip was pretty well prepped. So i'm sure i'm still hurting from that, other wise i'd say the car is in alright shape. Still need to get the y pipe fixed, the shop said they would do it next thursday.

Definitely a huge step in the right direction!

Your trap speeds are still a little slow for a LT header/ORY M6 car. Should be more like ~108ish. I would not worry about that until you fix the Y-pipe though, as KR could certainly be causing a reduction in power. Might also benefit from a custom tune for the exhaust to get the most out of it.

yeah, tune and gears are up next. i've had 2 people tell me at stop lights that fire is coming out of my exhaust. So i know I'm running really rich.
