LS6 Intake
I heard that some of the 2002 LS1 cars got an LS6 Intake because GM ran out of LS1 Intakes.
1. Is that true?
2. How can I tell if my car has an LS6 Intake?
3. How much of a difference does an LS6 intake make?
Thanks

1. All 2001 and 2002 models received an ls6 intake, some 02s got an ls6 block because they ran out of ls1 blocks
2. If your car is an 01 or 02 you have an ls6 intake
3. i believe it's good for 15-20 hp

On a stock car, it's good for about ~5hp.
The '01+ LS1s overall do make a bit more power stock, due to a combination of improved exhaust manifolds, slightly better stock head casting proceedure, and the LS6 intake. They make about ~10hp more stock on average.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the only difference between the LS1 and the LS6 was the H/C/I. The LS6 was built on a different block? If so, how is it different? I know that they are the same size.

Remove the intake and look at the valley plate...if it has the pcv there it's an ls6 valley plate but it could be swapped. You could remove the transmission and rear cover and look at it back there (I think there's a difference) Or you could pull your oil pan and look for the skirting! Or...you could put it in the back of your head and not worry about it unless you go to 500hp+
Or!...you could look up casting numbers. Probably the easiest way.

^^^ agreed and when you go full bolt on all advantages are gone........ Except maybe the 98 may have a couple more ponnies due to bigger cam but I am slightly biased and that maybe why I say that lol

I never knew any of the cars had a LS6 block. I had only heard about the intake manifolds. Thanks for the info.

Quick question, I confirmed an LS6 block casting number, but it still appears that the outermost head bolts in the center row are the shorter kind. I thought when they went to say 04 and up LS6, all the bigger head bolts were the same length????

ok here's a quick question, sorry to hijack....
Let's say i take a 98-00 TA and slap only an LS6 intake on it...... would it make more power than an 01-02 because of the higher lift and more duration in the 98-00 cam ?
Im guessing this has already bee done before but i couldnt find anything by searching.
Sry but its just been bugging me for a while..... thanks
