how to tell heads from heads
i am looking to buy some LS2 heads from a local guy i was wondering if there was any thing i could look for on the heads to no that they are LS2 heads thanks

The 243s were used on the LS6 and LS2 along with some later 5.3L truck engines.
The LS6 had sodium filled valves, the LS2 and 5.3s did not.
There are 2 different castings of 243s, they are identical but the casting process was different resulting in smoother ports on the ones with a triangle casting mark below each plug hole. Google it and you can see some pics of what I am talking about. If you are going to have them ported this really doesn't matter.
GENIII vs GENIV doesn't really matter on the heads so much, the LS2 is still a cathedral port heads engine. People run L92s on GENIII LQ4s and LQ9s. GEN doesn't matter in this case.

I was under the impression that they weren't interchangeable because of the different generation. Thanks for clearing it up.

wow thats a lot of info i was just wanting to put ls2 heads on my 98 trans am ls1 because i am turboing it, and i read ls2 heads would lower the compression but with all these options i guess i need to read a little more
