well, I know it sounds crazy but in a mechanics world, jacking up the engine by the oil pan is done alot more than you think. Some manufacturers will tell you to jack up the oil pan when replacing motor mounts. Yes it is dangerous and you can damage the oil pan. usually You can put a piece of thick rubber in between, and be fine. you just have to use your head and not jack up on some rusty old oil pan.

I can see this being a problem on some cars, like older small blocks, but on an LS1 motor the oil pan is structural to the motor and transmission mounting. I'm fairly sure if it can handle a transmission being bolted to it, it can handle gently being jacked up with a 2x4.
OP, next time, use something in between the oil pan and the jack. It is much less stress on the oil pan if you spread the weight out with a piece of 2x4 or a piece of rubber mat. It's the same concept as snow shoes.

1. You need to get the car up as high as possible at all 4 corners on the jack stands. Because to change the oil pan you will have to either lift the engine or lower the K member, both ways will requier an engine hoist.
What I would do, Save up until you can do it the right way with an engine hoist and a lift plate like this one-http://www.tpis.com/parts/view/67.
otherwise you will have more mishaps, exspensive mishaps at that.
