Default TR5 same as TR55?

Title says it all. I will be doing a cam swap soon and will be changing the plugs while I'm in there.

Yes, I have searched, and I came up with several different answers, ranging from they are just factory gapped different to they have different sized electrodes, etc.

And while on the topic, what gap would you recommend for a 228R & headers (a tune ofc), practically everything else stock? I've heard .035 all the way to .060

I'd do a TR55 gapped at .055".

I believe the original spec was .060 when our cars were new. GM then issued a revision for gap to be around .035. I have run .060, .055, .050, and .045 with no changed noticed between these.

Yes, the factory gap spec with the original platinum plugs was .060". On 12/12/03 Bulletin 03D-J-171 was issued, which pertained to the new iridium tip plug that had been released for several V8 engines (including the LS1). This new plug was factory issued with a gap of .040", and it was specified that the gap not be changed on that plug, even for use in applications were a larger gap was originally indicated.

But there was no revision issued for gapping of platinum or conventional tip plugs on this engine. The smaller gap was just for the iridiums (#12571164).
