Why would you rebuild both at 120k?
It's in Arizona, so I betcha the A/C has issues and that's why he's selling LOL. Having no use of your car while the car is getting the transmission and such rebuilt is a pain in the butt. Same goes for the A/C which never (in my unfortunate experience) ever seems to get repaired right. My sister's '95 Z28 has a long list of constant A/C issues and like many on ebay "doesn't blow too cold anymore". Just a thought.

Does this guy live on the Manson Family Ranch?

I agree with one of the previous posters, in that: why would you rebuild both the motor and tranny at 120K and sell the car just 4K miles later?

I would talk price after, and only after, you've driven the car a good 10-20 miles and have passed judgment.

Okay, so I've been asking questions all day (some of the same ones your guys asked) and here's a summary.

He says the motor was rebuilt at 113,000 by the previous (and first) owner who (according to CarFax) sold the vehicle with 113,000 miles on it. So I'm thinking he possibly rebuilt the engine and then sold it - but that seems a bit weird but also seems plausible.

The transmission seems to have only been "refreshed". The seals were replaced and the output shaft bearings were replaced. He said "other stuff" might have been replaced, but he doesn't know for sure and all the receipt states is "Clutch Install" and "Transmission Re-Fin"

After this information, I may rethink my offer.

For some cars yes, but it could also be bought from SLP. Mine has the stock plastic one and its faded, looking to get a SLP.

Got a picture of the SLP option sticker, the ZR1 rims and grille were both options purchased with the car.

You can tell which filter it is from the pictures?

Lid. You can tell which lid is mounted to the car. And subsequently, a reasonable person would deduce that the Blackwing filter is no longer inside said lid, but rather the SLP aftermarket that came with the assembly.

The Blackwing would have a logo on the bottom right hand corner of the lid, and the "SLP" logo would not be raised and colored.

Not really a big deal; it's just an inconsistency. The Blackwing supposedly has better fittiment.

You might test drive it before passing judgement on the transmission. IMO, better to have a slightly rebuilt transmission than an original untouched one in a car with that many miles.

im guessing refreshed means that shop replaced what was needed which is probably ok. id have it checked out though.

The receipt says he was charged $320 for a "Transmission Re-Fin". That seems awfully cheap for someone to actually open up the transmission and preform work, doesn't it?

He was also charged $450 for a clutch install on the same receipt.

I asked him for a copy of the receipt and it just confused me even more. It lists a clutch install for $450 as well as a "Transmission Re-Fin" (the owner is claiming this is the rebuild) that only cost $320.

To me, $320 seems much too cheap for any real work to have been done to the transmission - but I would like your opinions. Could a "rebuild" really have been done for $320?

Not around my neck of the woods, that's really low. Maybe you could contact/call the shop if they remember that car...

So I mentioned that my "buddies" said it doesn't look like the car has a blackwing filter or a SLP MAF and he responded:
"Well your friends don't know anything about cars. It's an SLP cold air intake and I never said anything about the manifold"

When I explained to him I was talking about the MAF, he said:
"I changed the sensor inside of it so it does the same thing as a bigger aftermarket one. Anyone who knows about cars will know that."

:wtf:

The filter wouldn't fit in that SLP lid?

Me either. He's being sketch about it when all I did was ask a few questions. Maybe I'll let him sit for a bit and see how cheap I can get it. He said he hasn't had any other serious offers.
