Would this be a good idea (cut outs)
I am new to cut outs but I would love to get one for my car. My question is I have Long tubes, 3 " catted Y, with the stock ws6 catback and a 40 series muffler. The catback I pipe is 2.75 inches. Should I buy a 3" I pipe from someplace like summit and have the cut out installed in it or just weld it in the stock piping?
Unless you are going to be doing some system replacement, Just buy the cutout and weld it into the system, dont make much sense to go thru the hassle of buying and installing a bigger pipe just to put the cutout in.
I don't quite understand why you'd want a 3" I-pipe - if your catted Y is 3" already then just put your cutout directly after the merge, then have it step down to stock after the cutout.
You'll have hardly any restriction with the cutout open, and the same .25" step down for when its closed.

See my post in Gen III external engine. This is my plan, even though I've got a Hooker catback. In your situation, i'd weld it in the stock pipe so you don't chop up a catback. This is a little further back than most people put them and a little less intrusive, plus you shouldn't have to worry about knocking it off.
Yeah man thats what I was thinking. I dont plan on doing internals so I dont think the 2.75 pipe will restrict me much if any. To be honest it may even be 3". The car has had 2 previous owners so its hard to tell.
Hello, I'm in the process of selling my current car and purchasing a LS1/z28..hopefully SS, but anyways I'm very interested in the 3" DMH electric cut outs, but my question is.. would LT headers and full cat-back add more power with a dyno tune or LT headers with the 3" cutout dyno tuned add more power? Cops around my area are ******** and they really don't care if your driving a hot american car or some dumb riced out car.. you're getting a ticket if its loud! LOL
OP, what kind of cutout do you plan on getting? Electric or manual? I have a manual cutout and it's a PITA having to lay down all the time and undo it lol. I would definitely spring for a reliable electric system to be able to switch back and forth with (like DMH).
The manual cutout is dirt cheap and very fun. But dealing with them gets old. Definitely looking forward to ditching my cutout+stock catback and meeting in the middle for a good flowing exhaust setup.

I have a 3" QTP that I welded in, its a great cutout. When its closed you hear no exhaust leak like you will with some and when its open you can deff. Tell a difference in performance and cutouts are dyno proven. Typically give you anywhere from 10-20whp depending on your modifications.
id get rid of the slowmaster... my friend dyno'd his car when it had a flowmaster. he then replaced it with a magnaflow and installed an electric cut out. Re dyno'd it and had 25 RWHP over the flowmaster.
