Ok, not sure what engine I have now

You mean you tried attaching it to the heads? 243 heads are aluminum, try below the heads, on the block.

borrowed from another forum "The same engine (LS2) used on 3 different model years requires two different filters. The LS2 used in 2005 and 2006 models requires a PF46 and the LS2 in a 2007 requires a PF48, which is also used on the 2008 LS3"

WHOA you have a LS9!!!! JK sorry... On to the serious stuff. So we know you have 243 heads. Is the block relativity the same color as the heads? Also can you get a light and look all over the front of the block behind your pumps and such to see if there is a 5.3 5.7 6.0 number cast in the front.

Haha yea it was pretty lame last night trying to use the light from my cell phone to find numbers. Neighbors probably thought I was an idiot for that and for taking a turtle refrigerator magnet out to the car and putting it all over the engine.

Also, I tried finding the cast numbers and I do not see anyway to get back that far to read them. I would have to use a mirror of some kind and it would have to be small to fit back there. I could be blind but I spent 5 mins trying to find them and can only assume it is too far back for me to see or covered by something I missed?

throttle body is the only thing that matters for dbw or cable driven. you can use a lq9/lq4 block (same block) with ls2 tb or ls2 tb and still have a cable driven. look under the car at the harmonic balancer and right to the left of it u should see if it says 6.0 or not. thats where mine was on my silverado ss. also, if the block color like stated above is like a dull grey color, its iron.

I got as far under the car as I could and I could not make out any numbers near the HB but I could not get that far under either so I am still clueless =(
Only casting number I could find was on the water pump, 12573125. I checked it out and that is not going to help from what I could find. This is getting annoying!! Why in the heck do hey hide the friggin numbers!!

DUDE IS YOUR BLOCK DARK IN COLOR!!! LIKE BLACK OR IS IT GREY! IF ITS BLACK VERY DARK ITS LQ9 or 4 IRON CAST and if its NOT then its an LS2 ALUMINUM BLOCK! easy as that its not that hard to look at the block and tell the difference dont tell me your color blind because then you will have some issues..

Sorry, thought I had kinda resolved the aluminum/iron thing when I said the magnet would not stick. I was getting worked up on how hidden the cast numbers are and being annoyed because ants got on me when I was laying on the ground.
