Ok, not sure what engine I have now
Ok I thought I had a LS1 with the LS2 heads (243 cast # on them). Today I got the first oil change and the filter for the LS1 does not work. The oil change place tried one (#wp48?) and it worked. Guy said those are like 06 and up engine filters. Anyone have any clue what engine I would have based on that? Sorry there isnt more to go on. When I first joined someone told me where to find cast numbers but I never could find them so if someone can point that out again I can look again, maybe a picture would help?
Anyway just trying to figure out what I am working with here.

I bought the car from a dealer in South Florida. The salesman told me the previous owner had put $5000 into the engine (complete swap) but he did not know details. I assumed the salesman was lying but I did not care. The price I paid for the car was fine even if it had the stock LS1, I just wanted a fun daily driver.

Yea if anyone could tell me an easy way to spot what engine I have for sure I would appreciate it. Like I mentioned, I know the heads are the LS2 heads because of the 243 stamp. Anything else I can easily spot without having to lift the car?

Hi,
the casting number is located on the engine block at rear drivers side bank. You can't miss it. This is true for all third and fourth generation...... Have a blessed day. Jim

Well one more question, is that on the side of block towards the tire or on the back towards the firewall?

Ok, magnet did not stick. I stuck it right in front of where the headers attach, seemed to be the easiest spot to hit in the dark, checked it and all around it, did not stick to anything.
