You can make big power with a set of heads but you need the cam to go with it. If your looking to spend around 2k you can find a good set of used haeds on the board and get a cam. But, you can make some pretty awesome power going cam only. Their are plenty of insane fast cars here with stock heads. Again, if your looking to spend around 2k you can get a nice cam, all the supporting bolt ons and start into your suspension a little. Then grab the heads later.

With 6-7k You should have plenty of money to get your car going. I would do all the bolt-ons like catback, headers, LS6/Fast intake, Lid and get a head/cam kit from TSP which is somewhere around 2k. I'd get the Stage 1 LS6 heads and a tourqer 2 Cam. Get a nice clutch like a monster stage 3 and the Tick Adj MC if your manual trans. This would put you over 400 rwhp if your M6 which is close to 500 crank HP.

6-7K id do...
$400 cam (TSP or TR..whatever your preference)
$1000 in full exhaust. Pacesetter LTs, ORY, Catback
$500 Spec stage 3 clutch (if manual)
$200 Motive 4.10s (manual) 3.73s (auto)
$900 Lid, 85mm MAF, port your TB, LS6 intake mani
$1200 Used set of bigs and littles
$800 in suspension QA1 parts
$800 in valvetrai upgrades
$400 in fuel upgrades Ford racing 39lb injectors, walbro 255lph fuel pump
Prices are all rough estimates...depends where you go to buy the parts on the cost but that will put you between $6-7K and you will have a very solid cam only car, Do some free weight reduction also.

Heads decide how well your car performs, not the cam. If you don't know that you haven't been in the game long enough.

Throw an awesome cam in with shitty heads, you got a turd.
Throw a shitty cam in with awesome heads, watch it shine.

If you got the money go with something like AFRs. You have enough money for a full bolt on heads cam intake car and a good deal of suspension.

Bstowers, sorry but that is not a very good list and prices are way off.

take your time and read alot of threads and ask questions..stock 243s ($400)will add almost 20 hp.some ported TSP heads($1150) can add 35+more.get the cam last after you have all the parts you want to work with.

Not exactly...their are plenty of cam only cars out there that run great...consistant mid 11s. I mean the cam only record is what like 9.8 @ 134....But yes heads do help a lot

Mast stuff is SSSSSSSWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTT
Lets face it Hemi and canted valve are the best flowing but rolling over
a wedge head only gets better and better. AFR is prob. the best 15deg.
TFS went 13deg., and Mast is 11 deg......shallower chambers, unshrouded
sexier portfloor to shortside radius transition......Speed costs

The only way I would go this route is if I could port them myself & on a budget. While there are good gains to be had porting LS1 heads theres more with a set of LS6s, & if I was gonna spend somewhere in the area of 1k on a port job. Now if you found a good deal on some stock ported heads(done by AI or TEA) & youre on a budget that would be ok too.

Not all but NICE cnc program 243's can be pretty close to aftermarket heads in performance on smaller bore motors. Especially a street type motor. They still have thinner decks and due to porting weaker rocker bosses but for most they are fine.

For more cubes the L92 heads are great but still have the the thinner deck/weaker rocker bosses (ported) as the 243/799 cathedrals. But very soon the aftermarket will see many L92/LS3 style heads hit the shelves to raise the bar again. These bring great promise and should easily trump the OEM rectangles... BTW the big aftermarket cathedrals run with or beat the L92/LS3 style already so....
