Default engine swap question.

I currently have a 2002 V6 Automatic camaro. It has 88K Miles on it and it is the 1st sports car i have ever owned.

It currently resides in the garage at my parents house. (recently received a make over externally, new windshield, paint etc..)

Should I swap the v6 out for a v8. If so what are the recommendations as far as engine type, keep it as an auto or swap it for a 6 speed. Any input you may have.

Thanks!

Well, If you want a V8 then you should put the one that came in them under the hood, Look for an LS1 the engine will fit and computer and such all fit in the right spot,,Expect to invest a ton of time and money, cause Honestly, you will come out cheaper just sellin your car and buying one with a LS1.

Not necesarily..it's not hard to install and wire it.

The T56 part will cost about as much as the whole complete LS1/4L60E swap tho..that part wont be cheap.

Had a buddie that just went through this. Converted a V6 auto to a V8 T56. Major headaches involved. Lot of head scratching and a ton of labor. Said he'd never do it again. You have to change the k member and everything.

does anyone know of a post where someone has done this that has a list of parts?

i doubt id consider swapping it out for a manual transmission just for the simple fact that you have to install a clutch in an automatic car (just sounds like way 2 much trouble)

i know it would require a new rear end amongst quite a few other parts.

but like the 1st question said. is there a list of parts or a website where someone has done this?

Doubt it, Not too many people would tackle the project, and even few would remember what all it took, and prolly none wrote the stuff down. heres a few for you, v8 front suspension, radiator and all connections, engine with with all hoses sensors harnesses and computer, same for transmission, crossmember, driveshaft, rear end, full exhaust, believe you will need a new instrument cluster to match the ECM, Those are gonna be the big ticket items that will eat your wallet. then there will be all the little surprises. You will be better off getting a v8 car. If the car has a ton of sentimental value then go for it, but expect a money/time eating project.
