When my car was stock, I couldn't burn tires from a roll for ****. Added engine mods, switched from 2.73's to 3.73's and got a full street and dyno tune, and now I can get sideways from 25mph on a 275 tire

Whats with this obsession of lighting up tires and ****?? Please is not like the act of lighting tires correlates with how fast a car is, its just a car loosing traction. This feels like the type of conversation high school teenagers have....

You can't tell me you don't like breaking your tires loose every once in a while? Haha. I like traction but who doesn't like a good burn out

Agreed, but the question was still raised. It's not our responsibility to judge the validity of it, but to give our opinion on the best solution to the problem.

Am I wrong?

Exactly!

To the O.P...

As was previously mentioned, I would recommend a full tune up. If that doesn't give the results you're looking for, then I would start looking for a 4.10 Gear Setup for your 10 Bolt. You'll burn the tires then. Guaranteed.

Just use the breaks. Its pretty easy but horrible for the 10 bolt haha

You'll burn the tires up...once...then your rear end.

Thanks for all the input guys I appreciate it. I didn't start this thread cause I wanted to spin my tires I was mostly just wondering if thats normal for a stock ls1, I felt mine wasn't as fast as it should be but I'm just really OCD about my car and maybe a little jealous of my friends ls2 m6 goat lol

Like I said before I didn't start this thread because I want to burn my tires I was just wondering if my stock ls1 behaved normal. I'm 20 and I can honestly say I've never done a burnout or donut in my ta in the 10 months I've owned it. I push my car every now and then just like the next man. Is that not one of the reasons we bought these amazing cars, so we could enjoy and experience the raw power they have I didn't buy the car to cruise like grandma haha no offense

There are many guys out there running a 4.10 Gear in their 10 Bolts without any problems. I realize the Factory Rear End in these cars is a weak link, but you make it sound as though installing this low of a gear is an automatic death sentence. That is not the case.

You're right. A Break-stand is a simple enough way to burn the tires, but that isn't what 01Ws6ix was wanting to achieve. He was looking to be able to spin the tires from a roll.

I realize any time you shock the drivetrain, in order to break the tires loose, you put stress on the rear end. My post was my best attempt to answer the O.P.'s question, regardless of what may come from beating on his car. His buddy could just as easily break the rear in his GTO by doing the same with it's stock rear gear.

Reading 01Ws6ix's latest post, he was using this ability (or lack of) as a gauge on how well his car was performing. It sounds like he doesn't beat on his car all the time. If he were to add a set of properly set up lower gears, I'm sure the rear would hold up just fine.

I stand behind my first post. Tune up. If that doesn't work, a 4.10 gear. And when you break your 10 Bolt, a MWC Fabbed 9".

Not that it matters. . . . My 98 has a AT and 2.73's in the back. Going from 1st to second at a 15Mph dig my car will try to pitch sideways and burn it's tires hard. It is on dry 245's though.

Man I wish my car would hook from a 5-10 mph roll. I get mad when I nail the gas and the car doesnt go anywhere but sideways

Well, the problem with this is that there may not be a "problem" at all. You really can't judge a car's power level by it's ability to lose traction. Like someone mentioned above, just a simple tire change can drastically alter traction levels with no other changes.

we resently had a 2002 trams am on the lot and we also have a 1997 WS6 both auto and both run great. But that 97 will blow the tires off as well as smoke the 2002 in race. we also thought that was crazy being 2002 was ls1 and 97 is lt1. sometimes i think its just the car. some are always just faster than others. it happens that way from factory as well.

also should add both are stock.

You have it backwards... The 2002 is an ls1 and the 1997 is an LT1.
In the F-body's the LT1 is from 1993-1997. The LS1 was from 1998-2002.

idk check your clutch I suppose.

My car I bought 2 months ago bone stock. Even after the lid/catback not much has changed.
When I first got it even, if I floor it in 1st it'll just spin. Also in 2nd it'll get loose for a bit. If i get on it in first, then hit 2nd hard, it'll get all over too.
