Default Basic air flow mod help

I'm so ignorant I had a feeling my WS6 was choking for more air and I've put it off for too long.... anyways just need some reassurance on the setup I'm about to go with. SLP air lid, smooth bellow, and SLP 85mm MAF. I guess I'm wondering if the SLP MAF will be cool cause the stock MAF is 75mm right? Can I just put this stuff on, start the car and be good to go?

well the thing is a while back my car started a "hesitating" like symptom in the 2-3 rpm range. The MAF was cleaned and it didn't fix the problem, until I bought a used stock MAF, that fixed the problem. Now the hesitating problem has come back. I suspect the K&N air filter has been over oiled and is causing this problem? So I'm going to paper air filter, and now I'm not sure what to do about the MAF.... I've been reading around here and it seems like every guy disagrees and condtradicts eachother... aftermarket MAF will make it run lean, get a tune with an aftermarket maf, don't get a tune, your stock maf is fine, cleaning the maf will mess it up.. etc etc.

The lid is the only thing you need to buy. The MAF,
just gently descreen the stocker. Clean it with a
lubricant-free electrical cleaner (I guess they sell
"MAF cleaner" now too).

If it's stumbling at 2KRPM it is not for lack of air. I
guarantee you that.

alright cool I'll clean the MAF and we'll see if that helps. I'm gonna get the lid no matter what. I just read some guy that cleaned his maf with MAF cleaner and it made it run worse, so i'm like but I guess I won't know till I do it.

Cleaning the MAF with the proper cleaner should NOT make it run worse.
He obviously has other problems.
"Proper". Yes, you can buy MAF cleaner off the shelf at most auto-parts stores.
Don't use other products, as the wrong detergents or lubricants can do more harm than good.
And don't touch the delicate instruments in their with your fingers either.

make sure you also follow the exact directions on the can because it gives a certain procedure that you have to spray it. also with the stumbling, it could be many of things, spark plugs could be on their way out, o2 sensors could be going out, maybe your fuel pump or fuel related i could be alot of things

Do you have an SES light on? What other mods are done to your car? If your running LT'S, from the sound of it you may have a bad O2 sensor. I had a bad one a while back and it was doing someting similar. The problem progressed until it jus wouldn't accelerate period. We do need to know all Performance mods on the car and if it's ever been tuned. Also is it a A4 or M6?

Check your fuel filter too. I had a problem like that once. I'd cruise at like 45 in 5th gear; When I'd floor it in 5th, my car would studder a bit. Thought it could have been plugged injectors or fouled plugs. Long story short, just replaced the fuel filter, problem solved.

I had the same problem for a long time. I had 2 bad rear O2 sensors and at the same time my MAF was black. I went to autozone and got MAF cleaner and also had my rear O2s tuned out. It runs 10x better now, whether it was one of those causing the problem or a combo of both...

Thanks for the help guys. My car is a Formula WS6 M6 completley stock except for cat back exhaust. Never had a tune. 46,000 miles. Time for plugs? Its definetly not a fuel related issue I had that tested thoroughly the first time I went through this ordeal. I really think its just a dirty MAF... I'll get the MAF cleaner and use it as directed and see what happens.

What is the purpose of the O2 sensors... and would getting them tuned out benefit me?

mine is doing the same thing, ive replaced plugs/wires/fuel filter. Imma replace the MAF with a STOCK one, and replace my front o2's since i have LT's. Your front 02's monitor ur exhaust gases to determine A/F ratio, ur rear o2's are pointless and say "Hey, ur cats are working!"

i would get everything but the maf... you dont need to upgrade your maf untill you have quite a few more mods.. just get another stock one.. and like you said, switch to a paper air filter if you feel the k&n one is getting oil on your maf. problem solved!

There's always spraying the K&N out with an air hose to get the excess oil out. You'll only need a bigger MAF if you're getting a bigger throttle body and you'll only need a bigger throttle body if you're getting a bigger intake manifold. I got the K&N FIPK intake kit. No more need for a lid, cleaner looking engine bay, comes with smooth bellows.

Volant, P&P Throttle body, Debaffle hood = Can't get much more air than that!

Don't touch the MAF! Clean it a little and that's it
