Default Introduction...

Just signed up tonight so I thought i'd be cordial and introduce myself.

I currently reside in Nazareth, PA...less than 1/2 mile from the speedway I am currently employed by Kraft Foods North America, and while the job isn't the greatest, the pay is out-of-this-world (side effect of being owned by a tobacco company). My whole life I have been surrounded by cars and car lovers...my father ran in the Winston racing series (busch for one year) and then retired to crew chief. He's now retired altogether and just does engines for fun. From him I have gained extensive knowledge in the mechanical field...from repairing to completely rebuilding engines and even entire cars...i'm right at home. I'm currently driving a black on black 1996 Grand Prix GTP...love the car.

How does this relate to the subject of the site? I'll tell you. Ever since my cousin took me for a ride in his brand new GTA in 1987, I have been in love with the Trans Am. I have always wanted one of my own and by this summer, maybe even by month's end, I will have one. I've sold and serviced the most recent generation of the car, and my brother and I are in the process of restoring a 1969 Camaro. So far the engine is done - 327 block, KB hyper pistons, edelbrock performer heads and intake, comp cam, hooker/flowmaster true dual exhaust with cutouts, and lots of chrome. power is managed by a race-built (stage 2 kit I believe) TH350. Next comes the paint.

Ok enuff with the fluff...now down to business...as I said I am in the market for a T/A for my self. Here's what I need...

- 1998 or newer Trans Am, WS-6 preferred.
- Must be 6-speed
- must have t-tops
- must have graphite leather interior
- must be one of the following colors
Sunset Orange
Black
Black Sapphire (or Navy blue)
Red

Looking for less than 60k miles...though I will consider more if the price is right.

Got about $15,000 to spend.

Will also consider VERY NICE 1997...black or red ONLY.

I know i'm picky but i'm also patient. Can anyone here help me out?

First off welcome to the board. Nice choice in colors. SOM was not available in 98. NBM is also nice but hard color to find. OB and TR are the most common colors for the 4th. Should be easy to find. Be careful as most 6spds w/ mileage on them are burnt up.

You have to ask yourself do you want a regualr TA or the WS6 or even a Hawk? Thats what you need to narrow down to. They don't make GTA's anymore.

Best place to look is like on www.cars.com and www.autotrader.com

Both have filters so you can choose color mileage etc. Hope it helps.

Welcome to the site! We have alot in common. I won't buy an A4 or hardtop, and those are my favorite color choices as well. I'm also building my 69 Camaro. With $15K to play with, you could pick up several good examples, probably in the 98-00 year range. Some of the newer models at that low of a price might not be as clean as the older ones at the same price.

97 Trans Am? NOOOOO! The LS1 is a much better engine to start with. It would take several bolt-ons on an LT1 just to match the power of a stock LS1, they start out around 40 rwhp less.

Our classifieds forum is full of potential rides. Don't rule out the Formulas either, they look pretty mean themselves. Click on the blue formula in my sig to see a mean example.

Welcome to the board. Id also check ebay. Its worked for me. I live in San Diego and bought the car in Wasington. Had to fly to Washington and Drive home. One of the best experiences os my life (24 yrs old not much experience). Got a 2000 ws6 with 5300 miles, so couldnt pass it up. I had a 95 TA for two years, which had the LT1 engine(same as 97), so I would recommend you go with 98 or newer. Dont get me wrong, the LT1 is an awsome engine but the LS1 is alot more fun . Definently go 6 speed. Good Luck.

welcome

I too suggest avoiding the 97 with the LT1. I'd put your searches on for an 01/02 if you can swing one that new. If not, I wouldn't go any older than a 99 if you plan on a lot of mods. For the reasons, just start searching this forum. You'll find a ton of info. Good luck!

BTW, i'm in State College myself.
