Default NEW here! question about headers

I am sure this has been beat like a dead horse. I just bought an automatic 2k z28. I am planning on converter, changing the steel drive shaft for the aluminum, gears, 150 wet, tune, and eventually a small cam that will work well with nitrous.

The question. I picked up a set of BBK shorty headers for a good price. How much difference / power loss would I see vs a full length header. I also will be doing the true dual exhaust, with a set of moroso spiral flow mufflers

appreciate any info

shorties are...almost useless..sorry to break it to you
your looking at about 10-15 hp difference between shorties and long tubes

good if you need to stay smog legal though, im not saying youll see NO GAIN, but when it comes to power its long tubes or nothing

You'd really be either A) wasting time with the install or B) wasting money for someone to install them for you. You might pick up 5rwhp instead of the 15-20 with the long tubes.

Agreed. Put them on ebay or Craigslist, get what you gave and invest that in Longtubes. Only way to go.

Also you mentioned swapping the drive shaft for an aluminum one. Might wanna 2x check you don't alrady have one. 3.23s have aluminum shaft, 2.73s have the steel one.

Ya I already put them up for sale. they are brand new BBK in the box I am just asking 275 on CL does that seem fair. I will be purchasing longtubes because I plan on trying for low 11's maybe well into the 10's all said and done. I should just go all out while I'm at it. I already checked the drive shaft and it is steel. So that means I have 2.73's?! No wonder is spins for mile in first gear lol. I bought a stock aluminum shaft for 50 bucks local. Thought I would throw that in there. Anyone have any opinions on that? It appears to be the 2 1/2 inch shaft. Thanks everyone

also I am looking at the hooker super comps 1 7/8". anyone here know if they hand down low. I am wanting to get this car as low as possible. That is actually why I bought the shortys in the first place. Also what does everyone think of them?

I dont know personally about those- but i can tell you the bbk long tubes would be a great set to have if you plan on lowering the car. I have bbk longtubes on mine and was suprised how great the tuck up under the car compared to some others ive seen. They arent 1 7/8 tho

Look on the list of codes in your door. GU2 = 2.73s; GU5 = 3.23s.

awesome. thanks!

14k when you have a really tall gear, the car will tend to spin for a longer period of time. You have a lot more torque through your first gear ratio, and with a tall gear, first gear last a lot longer that say if you put 411 gears in. you would generally spin a much shorter period of time and would also have to shift much quicker into second gear. A gear is like a lever the shorter the lever the harder it is to pull with weight attached, the longer the lever the easier it is. The right gear can give you the right amount of ratio to torque for your car making it as efficient as possible. The optimal goal is to go through all your gears, without hitting the dinger (rev limiter) before you reach the finish stripe. It gets deeper than that, but that is the short of it, to try and answer your question. I have still seen people go fast 1/4 mile with tall gears, but not very common.

looks like I have the 2.73s YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I think I need a set of 373s that should put me about right I think. Anyone have anything to add. Or correct me if I'm wrong lol

I just bought an LS1 BBK Full Length Header System for my 02 Firebird Formula Trans Am and was wondering if long tubes make it where the engine light will come on.. Also since they are chrome if they will change color or chip.. Someone get back to me id appreciate it.. Thanks lol

Shorty headers only belong on V6's lol, that's what my old Camaro had.
