Which Gas?
Okay so I recently purchased my new 02 T/A and I know this is definitely a NooB Question but I couldnt find anything on it in the forums. When I come home from deployment and start driving my new t/a what Gas is the best as for as money/fuel economy wise?
I know that 87 is a no no for the LS1 (my dad accidently put it in his Hawk one time and it knocked down to the last drop). So what does everyone run, Mid-Grade or does everyone go all out and run Premium?

I put 89 in my T/A for the first few weeks but thought the seemed kind of low switched to ethonal free91 octane and picked up 2-3mpg and a little power, put a tank of 91 octane gas with ethonal and the mpg's dropped again. I switched to 87 (no ethonal) in my beater 96 grand prix and picked up 2 mpg in it also even thogh it cost more for either of them I'm saving money in the long run.

91-93 octane should be used in an LS1 for optimal performance and mileage.
If you can find ethonal free gas, that's always going to be better for mileage. But good luck finding it.

In an emergency, the engine control computer is capable of compensating for 87 or 89 octane gas, but the manual says you must run 91. Higher octanes than 91 typically make no difference except to your wallet, though there is no harm. The actual quality of a particular octane fuel (e.g., ethanol content) can vary from station to station (and more often from brand to brand).

It's kind of funny that in Iowa the heart of corn country finding ethanol free gas isn't that hard, the real problem is finding premium gas at any small town gas stations and to make it worse they’re all getting bought out or were built as Casey's which sells pretty lousy no name gas and even when they do sell premium it's still low quality crap. I'm able to fill up at BP most of the time but if I have to I'll put 2 or 3 gallons of 87 in at the Cenex station here in town I'd rather have the low octane then ethanol in my tank. And screw the farmers that want the corn prices to say high there’s just as many hog and cow famers that would like to see it to drop and then I might be able to afford to eat steak more often.

pure premium should improve your mileage.alcohol has fewer BTUs ,so you need to burn more to make the same power.maybe you could buy some hi-octane unleaded from a airport or a speed shop,or a local race track.I bought barrels of hi-octane fuel and had a hand pump to pump it ..
