First off 0-60 is Ricer math. Also a close 2nd would be HP per Liter.

Never owned a ls1 with less that 120,000 miles and my current ws6 has 175k...no problems what so ever. Everything can have something go wrong, but these are the most reliable motors I have ever seen as far as life and abuse they can take.

For pushrod engines, there are 4 Reliable Motors on the market today. The Ford 5.Slow. The SBC. The BBC. And the LSx Based motors.

150K, a few hundred passes at the 1/4 track.. and daily abuse (not kidding).

Things I've changed...
Clutch (112K)
Starter (120K)
Knock Sensor (135K)
Fuel Pump (150K..just died).

Other than that I change the tires every 55~60K miles and average right around 25mpg per tank. Not much else to say...

Good luck with your decision.

nobody has really addressed the fact that he wants 500hp out of the lsx motor n/a.

OP: do you want 500 at the wheels?

if you want that you will need to change a lot more than was mentioned.

i think what was mentioned was just to ensure reliability..no?

H/C/I will get about 450hp in an LS1, right?

It is a well known fact LSx motors have oil windage issues in drift cars and are prone to spin bearings. A least get an aftermarket pan with a better designed baffle or better yet drop some coin for a dry sump.

If you are serious do it, the V8 dominates drifting, watch any event and see who podiums, and most of the top guys have LS motors

Between myself and my buddies, we have:
2 T/As
1 Formula
1 Camaro
1 GTO (Thats doing over 550 rwhp and gets driven an okay amount)

Problems I've seen from these 5 cars and these 5 LSX motors:
None. Nuff said.

He's swapping into a 240sx so a new pan is required anyway so I second that.
I'm using Fueled racing's swap kit that uses a front mount with quad baffles to keep oil where it's supposed to be. Sikky's pan is similar as well. I wouldn't recommend using a gto pan like some people do for the above reason. Another good investment would be an accusump in case you do lose oil pressure for whatever reason.

Oh, in reference to jap motors are always more reliable than GM comment. It seems as though part of the reason you are swapping to lsx is for reliability.... hmm, kinda nullified your own point there. (I know you want the extra grunt too.)

Also, if I already had an RB in my car, I wouldn't swap it unless it blew. A ka or sr20 is a different story though.

My trans am has a reliability issue with its back tires it seems as though they smoke a lot and don't last very long.

5.7 '96 Tahoe my parents had went through like 3 transmissions and had an array of very bad electrical problems, never really ran good. They got an '04 Z71 Suburban as a trade in with the 5.3, that motor was replaced at 111k miles due to cracked heads and it also has bad electrical problems, even to this day.

Dad bought a '00 Nissan Altima brand new as a second car to go with the '96 Tahoe, got rid of that with 13xxxx miles in '08 and it wasn't in the shop ever besides the regular maintenance, and it needed a new clutch at like 115k or so. Traded that in on an '08 FJ Cruiser, that truck currently has 74k on it and hasn't been serviced once besides regular maintenance.

Keep in mind, all the mentioned vehicles were daily drivers driven in heavy Beltway traffic everyday for about 30 miles each way, the Japanese cars have held up tons better.

Just sayin'....

Random sampling....

I would focus on the oiling/rod bolts for a drifting car.

Thanx for all the feedback, as of right now im going to stick with my RB for reliability reasons and prob build a LS on the side, i just cant afford to buy a motor and build it to be reliable right now, i am competing in Pro-Am drift and dont want to take the risk of engine failure, cant afford it financially or competitively, but all the feedback helped, as for u GM fans i will prob go with it in near future, because it does make good power and trq as well as light and easy to work on and get parts for, but will have to fix a few things to make it reliable for what im doing with it

OP, im amazed at the people bashing you.

you should have treaded a lil lighter I suppose though.

regardless, I am here for the same reason you are, I want a LS in a 240 to screw around in.

As said, the biggest issue I have read or heard of is oil starvation up high while drifting. Some guys have gone dry sump, which helps for oil pan clearance, but obviously expensive, and others have upgraded/modded pumps for higher flow along with baffled pans.

I think you might have to change your driving style too, as you'll have way more power sooner in the rev range so you might not need as much as you think. Ive been told this stuff by guys who are common customers of import imtelligence (of drift alliance) and a couple guys who frequent R/T tuning.

good luck to ya man. that vid you posted is awesome as well
