What are common problems with LS motors
OK so ive been looking to maybe swap a LS motor into my 96 240sx which i use for drifting, currently have a RB25 making lil over 300whp, LS would be nice because its lighter, make more torque and HP, and will better balance
the car aswell as less things to worry about like turbos, pipes and oil lines.
My motor has been very reliable without any issues and its stock pushing 300+hp and with new turbo and fuel can easy make 500hp and be reliable.
I want a V8 and LS is easiest and cheapest but will it be worth it in long run i dont want to be fixing it all the time, i need a reliable motor, i prefer to hear from people who are from non GM cars and had or has a Japanese car or other. Lets face it Jap cars are alot more reliable and alot of die hard GM guys i know will say its very reliable anyways.
so please tell me any common issues and if they can be fixed to prevent it
common things ive herd from searching:
-oil pressure issues
-cooling
-piston slap
-bent push rods

And to answer your question the LS based engines are great. If your going to be driving it hard most would recommend replacing the push rods especially if your going to upgrade the cam. But besides that there solid engines, I've had 4 different LS based cars and have never had any issues with any of them. And it seems like the people who do have issues are because they don't keep up with the regular maintenance on the cars.
But If your RB engine is running great I would just keep it. Both (RB25's and LSx's are great engines) and you really can't go wrong with either of them. So I would keep the RB unless something is wrong with it. now if you had a NA KA engine in the car I would say go for a LS swap but I wouldn't spend all the money on a swap if what you have is good. And it would probable be easier to just increase the power on your RB to 500 HP then it would be to do a LS1 swap and then add 200 HP to it.
And the whole "cars from Japan are more reliable and better then cars from America" is complete crap. Its just a false stereotype that people think is true. The fact of the matter is that a Cavalier can be just as reliable as a Civic as long as it is maintained properly.

Well thanx for the replies, as I knew would happen u can tell the die hard GM guys, but for those with real answers thank you, I relize my motor is good and reliable but a LS would be alot better on trq and like I said no turbo and components that go along with it to worry about incase of crash or anything.

Just tryin to see if I should go LS or keep my RB, the LS would help make the car more competitive. Just want to make sure it's a good choice Like early RB26 motors they have weak oil pumps so it's good idea to upgrade. Just want know the common things and if I go LS what should I do to it to help it last longer. usafws6 gave me some good ones thanks
