Default 98 6.0 z28

im kinda new to whole building a motor type of thing. i just recently just got a 6.0 off of a 2500hd as a gift. only thing is it has 150,000 miles and was working when was taking off. i asked around and some guys said just to be safe just overhaul it from top to bottom. after that i wanna add full bolt ons and i was wondering what things could i do to get some good # on the track by what things should i get for the motor to run strong and what kind of things am i looking at to a full complete overhaul? i would really appriciate the feedback guys thanks!

Are you building an N/A motor or for boost?

I'd personally build a boost motor being that the compression on lq4/9 motors is low.
As a start I'd freshen up the motor.

Lq9 engines have the same compression as the ls1. Lq4 engines have slightly less. A simple rebuild does not run that much. Stock over bore pistons, rings and bearings, and have the heads gone thru and milled. Maybe a small cam and new lifters with full bolt on's, you will have a pretty stout motor. Mid to low 12's is not out of the question with a cam only 6.0 and full bolt on's.

Go ***** deep dude. Build a stroker 408ci motor and jump right into the 10's.. If you need help with the build or have questions PM me. I can probably get you a good deal on the rotating assembly to. PM me if interested and I will set you in the right direction. My full weight 2002 camaro Z28 with the 402ci LS2 went 10.39@129mph 1.41 60ft first time out at the track with the new motor, th350 tranny and a strange 12-bolt rearend....

I too am new to the whole LS motors trend. I used to run BBC in my younger days in a straight line, but now have a keen interest in the road racing/autox scene. I have a 71 camaro and plane a full spectrum of DPE goodies. I want to build a 6L also and am pondering between twin turbos or n/a. This car will be a daily driver but want it to have 5-/600 hp and still srteetable. what suggestions do you guys have. I dont mind spending $ but dont really have deep pockets either.

This. Not sure if it's even worth swapping the engine out for only 500 hp. Go 408 or 402 and throw a turbo or two on it.
