Default Long tube headers? Tune

I am planning on getting some long tube headers for my camaro but have heard that you need to tune the car or it will run "shitty"...is this true?

No you will be good, after the header install you will notice a big difference in power. But however if you want to see maxium performance out of the headers yes get a tune but it is not necessary(a tune will also shut off the annoying check engine light). If you do decide to tune the car I would wait until your done dumping money into your car Intake manifold, cam, heads, fuel injectors etc.

I want to get long tube headers and then run new piping to the tail pipes. I will most likely get it tuned since I know a friend who does it cheap

The car will run fine, but like the others said it will run much better with a tune. Also, what are your other modding plans?

Confirming car will run ok... I did get someone to tune out my rear 02s and AIR system though otherwise they will throw an SES light (and someone said the fans will run?).

Ultimately though my car is running pig rich.. I would PLAN on getting a tune when you can manage it for optimal performance.

Hmmm... This is good to know. I just bought some LT's last week. Also looking at intakes at the moment. Would you guys say that it makes sense to put everything on at once, and tune right after? or would it be okay to install things as they arrive at my door?
I am looking at Intake, LT's, 3.5" Y pipe, high flow cats and Catback (not sure which one yet). I was also thinking about a Holley Throttle Body, but wasnt sure about that, or which one would be best?
Thanks.

It is always best to do things once and right the first time, that way, everything works in sync together for best performance (unless you wanna tune each time you install something, waste of $$$). You can still install your mods, just wait on the tune at the end for best performance.

To the OP, your car will run fine. I ran my WS6 for years before I ever got a tune. Like the others said, if your installing other big ticket items, I'd wait on the tune till I got everything.

I like to install everything all at once because im impatient, but the nice thing about doing piece by piece is you can insure a better fit and less problems. I did the headers, then took it out for a shake down and found some places i needed to grind down and all, then came back and did the ory when it came in, etc.

I see. I read really good things about BBK long tube headers so I will most likely go with those and wait until I have my ls6 intake and cam to tune! Thanks for the replies!

Yea I'm actually about to put my FLP LT's on, 4.10's, !EGR, !AIR, and go untuned till I put my Comp Cam 224 in and then I will probably just do a Frost Tune till I have the extra funds for a full dyno. But I think I've read something about how if I were to get the Frost tune after LT's and before Cam, is there a discount to get the 2nd?

I just added LT's/ORY and what a differences in the power I noticed. I took off the air pump and lines and took off the rear 02.I added NGK TR55 and 8.5mm MSD wires. Yes I'm getting a code for 02s and air. I'm waiting on a tune after I put in my SS4000 Stall and 373s..

How would you remove the dipstick tube? I know you must take it off to change headers. I am just curious...

1 bolt on the header flange then it just pulls straight up out of the block. It has a small O-ring around the bottom that seals it up.

Not kidding the tube held me up for almost an hour. I was worried about breaking it.. I finally just started twisting and pulling (while using some really bad words) and it popped out.
