Default Mod decision

Ok, I've got under $2000 to spend and most of this would have t o be installed by a shop, trying to decide which I should get.

I can get the polished 17"/18" c5 rims with tires for under $1300.

I can get the xenon gfx kit and paint it for like $6-700 (I know a lot of people dont like this one)

Or I could do performance mods. It's a 98 A4, and I can't decide which would give me the most bang for my buck coming off a mostly stock engine?

All opinions (even if not on these specific mods) are more than welcome

With your car I would say
1) Torque converter (if your performance driven)
2) rims (if your style driven)

I wont comment on the one alot of people dont like...

verter 700 + install(2-300)=1000
lid 85-130
cutout 30 +instal(30)=60
373 gears 130-180 instal (100-200)

That sounds pretty straight forward

I can get the 3500 stall verter and tranny cooler for $612.98 with shipping, and just say $300 for install (I don't even know who would do this, a transmission shop or what?!?! :\).

I can get the lid for $80 shipped.

Cutout will probably be $80 at my local shop.

373 gears I have NO idea, I am a complete newb to these. I'll use your estimate of 180+200 install = $380.

Thats $1500 on the high end, I have to ask though, how much will the verter reduce the life of my tranny by, and is there a possibility that these gears will tear through my read-end?

haha. word.

torque converters are fun, but i found mine to be somewhat of a waste on the street. i didn't get traction anywhere; i could never floor my car from a stop and expect to do anything but make a lot of noise. it was just pointless and annoying to have something so powerful, and yet never really get to use it.

at the track, it's a different story. spending $1000 on a torque converter is not uncommon, but spending $500+ on things to make the torque converter WORK is common. you'll have to have sticky tires. without these, your converter is worthless, and will probably hurt track times by even more. without the proper suspension, even sticky tires won't help, because you'll hop all over the place.

it's not a one mod deal at all. it's a very expensive mod, and i bet you'll be impressed how much you actually spend in the long run on making that one mod work.

everyone has different opinions on what mods are the best, so listening for a majority is a little unlikely. go with what you want to go with; no one except you will be happier with your decisions, not necessarily someone else's. if i had to tell you one mod you should surely go with, i would say subframe connectors. you'll wish that you had them in the future due to dimples in your rear quarter panels that WILL develop, so i suggest getting the subframes now. any kind of subframe will work, so don't feel like you have to research the topic to death. weld-ons are easier to install though

not negating the negative feed back .... but anyone who had there track time hurt by a converter CANT DRIVE... if your a a stab and steer driver and this is the exstant of your driving prowess then yes ... dont get a verter... but come on ... i get my cartek clutch with 400 rwhp to stay planted on the street on just nittos.....
its called knowing how to give the proper ammount of throttle .... with a STOCK car i can turn the tires to pillers of smoke just slamming the gas pedal...

tell you what....
believe me or not dont matter....
make a new post... ask who loves there 3200-4000 stall verter.... i will bet $100 to anyone that you get twice as many happys as not happys...

trust ... the general opinion is its money well spent....
