Default New to me - SOM Formula

MORE PICS ADDED

Well guys I left the FBody world knowing I would buy a C5. Well my budget would only allow a 100k mile 97-00 car in a color I probably wouldn't like. And I would still have my old camaro if it were any color but black. My god did I fall in love yesterday. I have never seen a SOM car in real life and orange has always been a favorite color. Well after a 5+ hour drive I am the second owner to a 6 speed, black interior Formula. This car is bone stock and my god was it cheap. Bought from the woman who ordered it from the factory back in 2001!

Here is my new 2002 SOM Formula with my winter beater. Love this car.

Why do we always come back to these cars....#3 for me!!

NEW PICS:

Congratulations! Just like mine! Does yours have cloth or leather? Mine came with cloth interior and I converted it to leather. Mine had aftermarket wheels when I bought it, and has 00 WS6 wheels on it now, so I don't know if it originally came with chrome or painted.

T Tops, cloth, 6 speed monsoon stereo and ugly wheels. No traction or trunk cd player. Perfect in my opinion.

I am going to start the hunt for sme nice seats, rip the backs out and get some nice wheels. Would like some light 17s.

End goal is a heads, cam, kooks true dual car tuned to run 420-440 RWHP on the street. With decent manners. All for less than what I would pay for a stock C5.

Car is bone stock and has 90k on it, new inspection sticker and all.

More pics tomorrow for sure.

Thanks! I think so too.

It does need a new hood I would love the stock ws6 hood, honestly. The rear of the car is a lot more compact than a Trans am, I really like the look.

Nice car and welcome to the very small SOM Formula club. I was reading your other post asking how many 2002 SOM Formula's there are and it is 51. Of those I have seen 2 automatics and 4 manuals. I myself own one of those manuals. Mine came with black leather seats. You and RevGTO both have cloth which seems somewhat common to the SOM Formula's that I have seen because of those 6, counting mine, only 2 have had leather.

Also of the 51 2002 SOM Formula's made, 1 is a GMMG Phase II 430hp car. So only 50 left. Out of those 50 Formula's I believe some where converted to Firehawks, but I don't know if that was one the production line or if they are part of the 51 total SOM Formula's. I know of three 2002 SOM Firehawks, so if they are being counted with the 51 that leaves at most 47. Of those 47 or so we don't know which are Formula's and which one's where converted to Firehawks, if any. Would be nice if we could start tracking how many are still out there and on these forums.

There's a hardtop for sale on ebay right now - cloth, M6 with Hurst. Car doesn't look super clean, but certainly can be brought back with some TLC and a little paint. I had to have the hood and bumper painted on mine because of stone chips.

I've heard of 3 automatics and 6-7 M6's over the years. A couple were Firehawks: one a hardtop in OK that I made an offer on, and the other being Nineball's well-known car, which was for sale in Puerto Rico last time I heard.

The A4's were all leather and the M6's all cloth. Chaotic's leather M6 is the only one I've run across. None of the M6's had traction control, and IIRC, maybe one of the automatics did. I still kick myself for not buying one of the A4's - a very clean FL car that an ebay dealer had.

I think mine was somwhat loaded from the factory as it is a TCS car with leather. I have yet to see another one like mine actually. I do see many M6's with cloth interior and no TCS though so perhaps most are cloth/non-TCS cars?

Also the one on Ebay is a 2001 and not a 2002, but still nice car and a hardtop.

For the right price that SOM formula in FL would be a great pick up although it does hint at being treated poorly. Rare car indeed being a hardtop/cloth/m6

To the OP, nice pick up.. Thought I saw this one on CL, did you come to Mass to get it?

I did a little searching today to try and determine just how many 2002 SOM Formula's were produced. As stated earlier 51 total were made. Of that 16 were sent to SLP for the Firehawk package and 1 is a GMMG Phase II 430hp Carl Black build. So that leaves a whopping......... 34 .......... 2002 SOM Formula's that seen the light of day. How many are left would be the real question???

Thanks guys, yes I did see it clist and drive downstate day to get it!

How many of them were manual cars? Mine is a 6 speed cloth no tcs.

If this were 2002 I would get this exact car with a hardtop! Doesn't get any better.
