If it has fuel, it has spark, and it has air, it should at least pop, fart, backfire, something. Those are the Trinity for making engines run, the rest is just details.
For an engine that has been sitting idle for a while I would check about the fuel first. If you can get the engine to turn over for a bit, pull a spark plug and see if it seems to be getting gas to the cylinder.
If you pull the spark plug and it seems to be wet with or smell like gas, then start checking for spark.
Unless a critter has a nest in the air intake it is probably getting air, but check that too.
Gas, spark, air. Something should make it go bang. Then you start narrowing down the other reasons why it doesn't run smoothly.
